Google Glass is likely to find itself living in some pretty niche situations rather than being something we all wear while walking down the street, and one of the places we'd expect to see Glass take the driving seat is in the medical world. Surgeons in operating theaters are particularly keen on leveraging the power and features of Google's wearable technology so that they can improve the level of care they give to their patients.
With Mobile World Congress not far away now it's surely a matter of when rather than whether Samsung will try and ape Apple by including its own fingerprint-sensing technology in the upcoming but as yet still unannounced Galaxy S5. There's been little concrete news on the subject so far, but as we draw ever closer to the expected unveiling of Samsung's next flagship smartphone, details are finally beginning to slip through the net.
Nokia has been coy amid the speculation of a supposed smartphone running on what we're led to believe will be a 'forked' version of Google's Android, but with the Mobile World Congress drawing ever closer, the well-guarded secret is becoming increasingly difficult for the Finnish company to keep under wraps. Today, prolific leaker Evleaks has come through with yet another press image of the supposed 'Nokia X' handset, and although the fact that Microsoft is in the processes of purchasing Nokia throws up quite the conflict of interests, it's looking more likely than not that the Lumia maker will be pressing ahead and showcasing the Nokia X next week.
Samsung is one of the most prolific carriers of Google's Android. Save a couple of half-hearted Windows Phone efforts over the past couple of years, the Korean company has consistently churned out swathes of smartphones running the ubiquitous software, and considering how many hundreds of millions of handsets out there are on Android, the $50 million Google paid to acquire Android nearly a decade ago looks a shrewd bit of business. But it has now emerged that in actual fact, Andy Rubin, one of the founding members of the Android team, actually pitched the product to the Galaxy maker out in Seoul, a proposition that Samsung unequivocally - and perhaps, regrettably - baulked at.
We've seen a plethora of leaked information that speculates on the potential technical specifications of the future Samsung flagship device, as well as conjecture surrounding the integration of a new external shell and an overhauled TouchWiz UI. "Sources familiar with the situation" have managed to furnish our inquisitive minds with pretty much everything we need to know about the Galaxy S5, except for an actual image that shows the aesthetics of the phone. That could all be about to change thanks to the latest Galaxy S5 concept that could be the most accurate we have seen yet.
It's always big news when Nokia announces a new smartphone, and it's looking increasingly likely that the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 24th is set to see a new, budget handset join Nokia's growing smartphone ranks.
Even though many experts have argued that the vast majority of the hardware within the latest smartphones represents overkill, the OEMs simply cannot resist packing new handsets to the gills with more powerful, cutting-edge technology. As geeks, we're also rather taken in by an impressive list of specs, and with the hotly-anticipated Galaxy S5 on the horizon, LG has jumped the gun and announced its latest flagship G Pro 2. With a sizeable, uber-sharp display, blazingly fast processor and generally beefed-up interiors, the G Pro 2 is an absolute beast of the smartphone industry, and you can drool over the full details after the leap!
The Galaxy S5 will be revealed in a couple of weeks at Samsung Unpacked 2014, which is scheduled to take place just before the opening of this year's Mobile World Congress, but while we've a rough idea of the tech specs, the Korean mobile giant has done a pretty good job of keeping the device itself under lock-and-key. Being tech fans, we're simply itching to see what's in store, and designer Jinesh Shah has cooked up a visual image of the device that not only offers a rough guide as to the form factor, but also takes into account recent TouchWiz icon leaks to present a neat, conceptualized UI to go with it. Check it out after the fold!
Apple's iPad Air may well be revered as the sleekest, lightest, thinnest, most powerful and indeed the most elegant full-sized tablet so far from the Cupertino giant, but even looking at more practical aspects, such as the battery life, the new iPad Air is peerless. Which looked at battery retention rates for a range of top-level tablets, testing common activities such as video playback and Web use to determine which slab could hold out the longest, and on both counts, the iPad Air came out on top.
Samsung's Galaxy S5 is very much at the center of attention right now, with leaks and speculation rife. We were recently shown a teaser for Samsung's Unpacked 2014 event which featured some rather fetching, distinctly flat icons, leading many to suggest that this may be a nod towards a newly redesigned TouchWiz interface for Samsung's Android line of smartphones. Those playing devil's advocate suggested that it may instead be based on icons from Tizen, but now it seems clear that it is in fact a teaser of what we may all be looking at when using a Galaxy S5.
