Due to the open-source nature of Android, maintaining its security is an ongoing and trying task, but while there are plenty of scam-artists creating malicious software and trying to poke holes in various apps and services, there are still plenty of developers and security experts trying to stem the tide. The developer behind Replicant, which provides free, open-source alternatives to proprietary Android systems (read: OpenOffice-like, but for Android), has discovered a flaw in certain Galaxy devices that could potentially allow an intruder to remotely "read, write, and delete files on the phone's storage."
Samsung's Galaxy S5, which was released at the tail-end of last month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, includes a bunch of new and exciting features both in terms of hardware and software. From the new gold color option and fingerprint scanner, to the 4K video capturing and advanced shot-taking experience offered by the 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, prospective Galaxy S5 owners have a fair amount to look forward to. Up until now, though, we've only seen little snippets of the eagerly-awaited device, but mobile industry insider Eldar Murtazin has just posted a series of hands-on clips totaling almost 50 minutes.
A couple of days back, Rovio Entertainment pushed a teaser trailer of a medieval-themed title, which it promised would be “the most epic soft release ever.” The trailer itself didn't give too much away besides the theme, but now, Kotaku has got wind that the title will mark the Finnish company's first delve into the adventurous world of role-play titles. Due to release later on this week in Australia and Canada, we're more than a tad bit excited to see where this might lead, and although there's no shortage of great RPGs knocking about, Rovio has proved time and again that it knows just how to keep us sufficiently entertained.
The WhatsApp for Android client is susceptible to malicious intrusion thanks to the way conversations are both stored and encrypted, a security expert has discovered. The bug opens up the potential for stored chats to be accessed via other apps, and even though the problem is, if anything, largely attributable to the way that Android is constructed rather than just being a WhatsApp issue, the apparent ease in which conversations can be gotten hold of and decrypted will no doubt leave users of the app feeling rather disconcerted.
Executives at HTC will be waking up like bears with sore heads this morning after learning that an internal sales brochure has been leaked ahead of the official announcement of the all new HTC One. It seems that someone within Telstra has not only been responsible for letting the document get into the public domain, but has also managed to inadvertently confirm the majority of the new HTC One's specs, including the purpose of that dual camera module which we’ve seen in plenty of leaks before.
Flappy Bird was undeniably one of the biggest successes in mobile gaming we’ve witnessed since the Angry Birds franchise made the scene. And being pulled by its developer when the game had reached an all-time high in terms of fame and revenue - on both the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store - it was strongly believed that the game will never see the light of day again, until now.
At Mobile World Congress towards the end of February, Samsung showcased its latest and greatest Galaxy S5 smartphone to the world. Like the launch of the Galaxy Note 3 back in September, the Korean outfit also added a smartwatch to proceedings, and after a generally negative response to the initial Galaxy Gear, the company will be hoping that the Gear 2 fares a great deal better. To whet the appetites of fans excited about the forthcoming releases, Samsung has delivered a hands-on video offering a walk-through of the Galaxy S5, as well as a further clip demonstrating the numerous bells and whistles of the Gear 2 and Gear Fit. Check them out after the break!
Here's a step by step guide on how to root your Samsung Galaxy S4 on the very latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Simply follow the steps and you should be running rooted Android on your phone within minutes.
The great thing about the fast-moving nature of the mobile industry is that, at any given time, there's something to be looking forward to. We've spent the last few months lusting after the Samsung Galaxy S5, and with the Mobile World Congress announcement of the upgraded device now done and dusted, we're now left to pine for HTC's next big thing. Technically known as the 'M8', the follow-up to the HTC One will be announced later on this month, and thanks to a revelation made via the Evleaks Twitter handle, it looks like its Taiwanese maker has also been working on an interesting case for its soon-to-be-showcased asset.
Yes, there are ways that you can still download and enjoy Flappy Bird on your mobile device such as the iPhone and Android, and we’ve got all the details for you right here.
