Even though Android has, by quite some distance, the biggest reach of the major smartphone platforms, developers tend, by and large, to favor the iTunes App Store over Google Play. Pebble, maker of the famed, self-titled smartwatch that kicked up a storm on Kickstarter in raising $10 million and selling out its 85,000 inventory right from the start, launched its version 2.0 iOS app a whole month ago in an announcement that also saw the introduction of a dedicated Pebble Appstore, as well as some new firmware for the wrist-worn gadget. Today, Android users can finally get in on the act as the big v2.0 of the Pebble companion app hits the Play Store.
Samsung's dogmatic approach to developing new products has seen it emerge as a superpower in the mobile game, but while the market is currently awash with devices bearing the Korean outfit's famed logo, we've also seen, particularly over the past couple of years, a marked improvement in the range and caliber of its software roster. The abundance of great 'S' apps accompanying each new Galaxy release always felt as though it was leading up to something more substantial, and today's announcement of "Milk Music," Samsung's very own streaming radio service, certainly makes a big statement.
With likes of Sony and Samsung having revealed their latest and greatest devices at MWC last week, it will soon be the turn of Taiwanese outfit HTC to showcase its eagerly-awaited successor to the critically-acclaimed 2013 release of the One. Thanks to numerous leaks, we already know most of the key details of the device, known technically as the 'HTC M8', including its stronger processor, larger display and two rear-facing cameras, but with the unveiling set for March 25th, we're going to be waiting a good few weeks beyond that for its release. If patience isn't your forte, perhaps you might be interested in yet another nifty bit of fakery from resident knockoffer Goophone, which has come through a respectable clone of the as-yet unannounced handset. Check it out after the break!
Yesterday, we got a very good look at the 4K video output of the Galaxy S5 thanks to a leak from a guy in Mexico with some enviable early access, and today, we get to see how the camera holds up when taking stills thanks to some sample shots. Samsung has clearly put a lot of effort into significantly improving the rear-facing snapper of its newest flagship model, and as if the earlier video didn't emphasize this point enough, these photos certainly do. Check them out after the break.
Google's Nexus smartphone and tablet range has proven time and again to be a huge hit with Android users, and following the successful launch of the Nexus 5 late last year, details are beginning to emerge of its would-be successor. The Nexus 6, which looks set once again to be manufactured by Korean outfit LG, will be revealed later on this year alongside Google's very first smartwatch, according to a report over at Gizmodo.
As we've come to expect from Samsung, the new flagship Galaxy S5 is packed to the rafters with new and exciting features. But having been impressed by the likes of the heart-rate monitor and fingerprint sensor, the Korean company has clearly put in some work to refine a more standard feature - the rear-facing camera. The 16-megapixel offering not only takes much better photos than any previous Samsung smartphone, but also shoots 4K video, and now, courtesy of a video leaked by an early adopter in Mexico, we can properly scrutinize the device's enhanced video-capturing capabilities.
We don't yet know precisely when the Samsung Galaxy S5 will begin retailing, nor how much it will retail for, but the Korean outfit is keen to remind us of its expansive feature set via a new promotional video. The Galaxy range is renowned for packing an unholy amount of useful software and hardware into one package, and yet again, those in search of an all-in-one handset have not been disappointed. The new trailer, which is almost four minutes long, takes us through some of the many new fitness features, as well as placing much emphasis on the device's photo and video-taking capabilities. Check out the embedded video below.
Samsung's advertising machine was in full flow once again at the Oscars 2014 ceremony, and when a Galaxy Note-snapped picture by TV personality Ellen DeGeneres surpassed the record for most retweets ever in just half an hour, the marketing and PR department of the electronics firm must have felt as though they'd struck gold. Yet, as ever at these kinds of events, the truth tends to reveal its ugly head backstage, and a later snap uploaded by DeGeneres via Twitter for iPhone suggests that, like a seemingly disproportionately high number of celebs, she's in fact an iPhone user.
Samsung really wants you to own the Galaxy S5. Its latest and greatest was unveiled late on during the first day of last week's MWC, and if you weren't already enticed enough by the gold color option and in-built fingerprint sensor, then perhaps the bundle of goodies that the Korean outfit is throwing in with every purchase will tip the balance. With every purchase of the company's flagship, users can claim up to $575 worth of free services, ranging from a six-month Wall Street Journal subscription to 50GB worth of free Box.com cloud storage.
With Samsung and Sony having already shown their respective hands with the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress last week, much of the Android world's attention has turned to HTC. The Taiwanese outfit made waves last year with the One, and naturally, talk of the HTC One 2 - otherwise known under the 'M8' technical moniker - has been prevalent. Today, a brave kid has leaked a 12-minute video running through some of the device's tech specs, features, and design, and while, as displayed through a Twitter exchange with an HTC official, his actions may see him land in a spot of bother, we can now enjoy his fairly thorough walkthrough of the upcoming flagship device.
