We informed you about the Google Nexus One when it was rooted even before the official launch. This was possible because of the engineering bootloader which was shipped with pre-release Nexus One devices. The retail devices have locked bootloaders but Paul at Modaco forums has managed to unlock it so that you can root your retail Nexus One for full file system access on Android 2.1.
The iPhone Dev-Team is back! and this time they have announced PwnageTool for both Windows and Linux. For those of you who don't know, PwnageTool is the infamous jailbreaking tool for Mac OS X, which can jailbreak both iPhone and iPod touch by creating a custom .ipsw file. The current version 3.1.4 of PwnageTool works with iPhone OS 3.1.2 to jailbreak the original iPhone (Edge), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (1G and 2G) running on iPhone firmware 3.1.2.
HP today has announced TouchSmart tm2, the much awaited follow up to TX2 in their convertible tablet PC lineup. The TouchSmart tm2 is going to be powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor with monstrous 9 hours of battery life off its standard 6-cell battery. The duo capacitive multitouch touchscreen is compatible to work with both fingers and pen, oh and it will ship with Windows 7 as pre-installed OS. Best of all, like all the new HP notebooks, the TouchSmart tm2 will have aluminum build which is slimmer, lighter and stronger than its predecessor the tx2.

Engadget in its extensive review of Google Nexus One carried out a web browser speed comparison test between iPhone 3GS, Nexus One and Motorola Droid. The test involved opening of engadget.com homepage at the same time on all the three handsets, running on a local WiFi network. Mobile Safari on iPhone 3GS dwarfed both the Android based devices by a long shot.
Remember all those rumors regarding Apple’s tablet launch in January? Well according to fresh reports from All Things D and Mac4Ever, Apple is set to unveil a “major” product (most probably the iSlate tablet) come this January 27th, and not January 26th which was reported previously. This mega media event will be held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
The concept images attached below are some of the best concept art I have seen in a while for the upcoming Apple tablet dubbed “iSlate”. Of course we don't know what kind of design folks at Cupertino have in mind for this niche market, neither do we know who the target audience is or what kind of functionality will it provide. But what we do know is that Apple is going to announce something on these lines on January 26, 2010, at a mega event to be held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
Folks over at AllDroid have managed to port the multitouch capable web browser from the European version of Droid i.e. Motorola Milestone over to the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless. For those of you who don’t know, Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless in US doesn’t support multitouch functionality in most apps even though the hardware is fully capable of running it. This is probably due to the US iPhone patents because of which even the Google Nexus One wont be able to support multitouch functionality.
Folks over at Engadget have got their hands on the Google Nexus One and their first impression of the device is “Nexus One thus far is .. not very different than the Droid in any substantial way.”. Yes, the phone does feel a tad faster to work with when compared to Droid, thanks to its 1Ghz Snapdragon processor. But the difference there is not by much.
