Oliver Haslam has written about technology for over a decade. His work has been published in print at Macworld and online pretty much everywhere else. If it plugs in or has a battery, it's fair game.
If you have a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 handset in your pocket and have been fretting about whether it would receive any more updates then you can rest easy, for Microsoft has confirmed that all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices will indeed receive updates to Windows 10.
We're actually pretty keen on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus design, but we know that there are plenty of people out there that disagree, and somewhat strongly. Those antenna lines aren't for everyone, and we can certainly understand why. Given some of the oddities that competitors have come out with in the past though, we're willing to give Apple a small, begrudging pass in that regard.
Samsung is making sure that Apple knows it's not the only one in town when it comes to having people carrying around multiple devices with its logo on, and what better way to do that than to clone the features that let owners of iPhones, iPads and Macs sling data and app states across all three?
It's been a while since we had a good security scare, so here it is. According to Microsoft, a good portion of its Windows operating systems are potentially at risk of having someone gain complete control of a machine using what it calls modified packets. The security hole comes due to a flaw that has been found in Microsoft Secure Channel and while it doesn't know of anyone yet who had exploited it, Microsoft had made a patch available that it says will keep us all nice and safe.
Google is known for doing some rather strange things, even if they eventually turn out to be brilliant. Take Google's Fiber broadband rollout to select markets as a prime example of something that had us shrugging our shoulders before realizing that it made so much sense we can't work out why it didn't do it before.
Even now, nearly two months since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released and we're still waiting for some major players to update their apps to support Apple's two new smartphones. One of those apps that people have been waiting for an update to is the Netflix app, and that update just landed on the App Store.
People will always want to take something new and mash it together with something old. Whether it be old farms turned into luxury homes or classic cars with the engine of a supercar under the hood, there is plenty of scope for taking something beloved and giving it a new lick of paint.
Jailbreaking. It's always had something of a bad reputation, no matter how much backers of the movement have tried to make it more mainstream. As with anything that's not quite the norm there are plenty of misconceptions about what jailbreaking is all about, how safe it is, and what it's used for. Fighting those misconceptions and legitimizing the practice of jailbreaking is never going to be easy.
Popular slow motion app TruSloMo has been updated to support super slow motion at 240fps as well as the new iPhone 6 / 6 Plus while also having its in-app purchase put on sale.
