Apple Studio Display Runs Full iOS 15.4 Just Like iPhones

Apple’s new Studio Display is now on sale and while people are getting their new monitors, reviewers have had them for a few days now.

One of those reviewers is Daring Fireball’s John Gruber who shared a screenshot showing that the display is running firmware version 15.4 — or iOS 15.4, to be more exact.

The new Studio Display comes with an Apple A13 Bionic chip inside to handle things like the Center Stage feature and more.

That chip requires some form of software to handle all of its features and capabilities and it stands to reason that some from of iOS would be used. Although it was perhaps unexpected that the software would be badged as such.

This all obviously means that a software update can be pushed to the display and it begs the question of whether the Studio Display will now get updates in lockstep with iPhones and iPads. That’s something users might be hoping for given the news that the display currently suffers from poor camera quality, something Apple has already promised will be fixed via a future software update.

The new Studio Display is now available to buy and starts at $1,599 although the nanotexture display and adjustable stand will add to the cost if those are things you need.
