Apple Car Batteries Could Be Built In The US If Apple Gets Its Way

Rumors of Apple working to produce its own electric vehicle continue to swirl with a new report claiming that Apple wants to be able to source its batteries from within the United States, rather than anywhere else in the world.

According to a new DigiTimes report, Foxconn or Advanced Lithium Electrochemistry are both keen to sign a deal for Apple’s business and are prepared to open facilities in the United States to make it happen.

Apple, which reportedly is mulling manufacture batteries for Apple Car in the US, may work with Taiwanese makers rather than Chinese ones, according to industry sources.

Taiwan-based Foxconn or Advanced Lithium Electrochemistry (Aleees), both of which plan to set up factories in the US, stand a chance of working with Apple on car batteries, the sources said.

Apple reportedly was looking to work with China’s two largest battery suppliers, CATL and BYD, but Apple’s insistence on using US-made batteries for ‌Apple Car‌ is making such partnerships seem unlikely, said the sources. None of these companies have confirmed the reports.

Apple already has specific parts of other machines built in the United States, including the glass that goes into iPhones. It also builds the Mac Pro at a facility in Texas, although the machine isn’t sold in anything like the same quantities as other Macs that are assembled elsewhere on the planet.

Rumors of Apple Car and its planned launch appear every so often and it’s impossible to know exactly where Apple is in terms of Project Titan. Some recent rumors suggested Apple might not be ready to sell anything until 2028 at the earliest.
