I have a crashed Iphone 3GS (Old Bootrom) 3.1.2 unlocked by Blackra1n and currently stuck on the apple logo reboot loop. I tried upgrading to 3.1.3 using an IPSW cooked by Snowbreeze 1.5 but got the 1600 error sometime back. Will snowbreeze 1.6 work with in this case.

You have 3.x.x jb by blackra1n, snowbreeze, pwn (NOT spirit). You can use recovery mode. if fail then use DFU mode.

Case 2:
You have non jb iphone. use DFU mode.

for window user, you need to rename the file type from .zip to .ipsw

I have an Iphone 3G, simlocked on Orange (official supported carrier). Monday I updated to from 3.1.3 (original firmware, not jb) to iOS 4.0, when it was released by Apple.
So now I have an Iphone with iOS 4, baseband 5.13.04.

Using sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 I cooked a new .ipsw (sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3G.ipsw – 300.3 Mb) from the original iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw (292 Mb) – “sent” by Steve almighty.

I've put my iphone in DFU mode, itunes has started, telling me that my iphone needs to be restored in order to be updated, selected from iTunes 9.2 the cooked .ipsw (300.3 Mb file) aaaaand, surprise: error 1600.

I've moved out all files from “c:UsersUSERAppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunesiPhone Software Updates” and retried.

Nothing. Same error.

've put the cooked .ipsw in the location mention above – alone (i thought iTunes might “look” for files inside that archive).

If you backed up your SHSH's via CYDIA and saurik's server, you'll need to follow the directions for downgrading to 3.1.2.

Make sure to select 3.1.3 as the firmware you want to Shift-Restore to.

Also, make sure to download the latest libusb installer (14.3 or something), as otherwise, it won't work with iTunes.

Also, downgrade your iTunes to 9.1.1. Download from filehippo, select 9.1.1 as the desired version.

Redownload Spirit. I know this sounds unnecessary, but I had to do it.

Just to note, I did this whole process about an hour ago. Got a 3GS (New bootrom) downgraded from 4.0 to 3.1.3 jailbroken.

I have 3gs (old bootrom) on 4.0 but never jailbreaked. I will downgrade to 3.1.2. then jailbreak with sn0wbreeze and finally follow this tutorial.

I got an error 2 in recovery mode and a error 1600 in DFU mode… Now my phone is stuck in recovery… time to go back to 3.1.2 and blackra1n.

HOWTO:

1. downgrade to 3.1.2 (official, not pwned, CLEAN!)
2. blackra1n it (even if error 1015)
3. make custom firmware with sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 or pwn 4
4. enter recovery mode
5. restore to custom firmware
6. install ultrasn0w unlock 0.93 to use any carrier.

I have a non-MC 3Gs running 3.1.3 jailbroken with Spirit and just unlocked it today with ultrasn0w. (It was previously running 3.1.2, JB with Blackra1n with 3.1.3 shsh currently on file with saurik) Can somebody explain why I can use Sn0wbreeze to install 4.0 now since I upped to 3.1.3 and used Spirit? I'm not sure why they say old bootrom on 3.1.2 and “already pwned with anything OTHER than Spirit”??

Just a quick update it worked a treat on my 3G 8GB running ios4 and put in a uk T-Mobile sim and it found the network.When I replaced back to my O2 I got a “No Service” BUT a quick reboot sorted that out.
Tip,Make sure when you cjange sim to do a reboot.

I was able to complete the iOS4 update and jailbreak, but seems like the only feature I am missing is tethering and MyWi fails to install–says “You may need to add additional sources. Could not fulfill dependency for a required app: Package = firmware (<< 4.0)” I have a 3GS model MC135LL, 5.11.07 baseband, old bootrom with AT&T as my carrier. I had successfully used Blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 (don't need unlock).

i tried to jailbreak with the above steps everything seemed to go perfectly but at the end i coudn't find the cydia application on the menu . at the end of the process i the phone restarted by it self then it said waiting for activation the i slide the slide bar could that have caused the problem ? what do suggest i do ?

I just bypassed this error after I restored to 3.1.2 (3.1.2 on saurick server) then you get error 1015. U done u stuck on recovery mode use isnowbreeze to get out of recovery loop, then jailbreak with blackra1n, and finally restore with the clocked ios4.0

Looking for some quick help. I currently have an 32gb iPhone 3Gs (old boot rom).
I was forced to update my phone to 3.1.3 after my phone decided to get stuck with the endless start up boot problem. I was left without a jailbreak for a couple days until i noticed spirit. I jailbroke my iphone with spirit, but it is the old bootrom, so im wondering if i can still upgrade and jailbreak iOS4.

I am trying to upgrade a 3GS currently on 3.1.2 jailbroken with Blackra1n. I've created the cooked ipsw with no issues, however when trying to restore from it, it fails with unknown error(2). I've tried the standard apple troubleshooting with no luck. I can sucessfully restore to any stock firmware (3.1.2 or lower) I desire, but the custom 4.0 fails with this error. I dare not try a stock 4.0 at this time

If you have a 3GS what you can do is when you are trying to install the custom firmware, instead of going into DFU mode, just continue holding down power and the home button until your phone has the RECOVERY MODE wallpaper, then iTunes will say it detected your phone in recovery mode, click ok, shift click restore, choose the custom firmware, and it will work. I was getting
unknown error 1600 everytime I tried to fix it and saw someone else's post on here and tried it and worked!

Devil: It does work. I got error 1600 at first myself..I noticed that I only got it if I attempt to restore from recovery mode (restarting and holding home button etc). What worked for me was that I just click the restore button in itunes (I restored to 3.1.2 at this point) and to my surprise it went through.

My problem now is youtube. It's not working.

Forgive my ignorance, but what if its a 3gs(old bootrom) with iOS4 that hasnt been jailbroken before? Wont this work? =]

Howdy, 3GS Users with OLD BOOT ROM! – Disable CUSTOM BOOT LOGO in SNoWBREEZE and then RE RESTORE. this will fix the never ending recovery loop.

Dont put your IP under DFU mode when restoring the iOS4.0 custom firmware. It will generate the 1600 error. it worked perfectly for me

I have done what the guide says but I have a feeling I had to do something before, because itunes wont restore my custom ipsw(it DOES restore the un-modified one with no problem), it keeps 1603ing me
I am pretty new to this so I dont know about “having an older version jailbroken”, anyone cares to enlighten me about what I should do(e.g get an older version firmware, jailbreak with that then update?) or point me at a complete newbie guide?

yea this worked for me. it gave me the error at first because i put the phone in dfu mode. guys just follow these directions as posted. DONT PUT THE PHONE IN DFU MODE.

Ok, This was my problem and solution.

I am not going to provide support of any kind to this.. Just letting people know what happened.

My Phone:
3GS
iBoot version 359.3 (that's the old one)
(had) JB'n 3.1.2 done with Blackra1n
Had SHSH saved

In my rush to try and JB with iOS4, I accidentally upgraded it using the STOCK iOS4 ipsw

When downgrading, I have a 2nd machine (laptop) still with Itunes 9.2 (not sure if this matters). Changed the HOSTS file as you would for a normal downgrade. Started the downgrade. (standard DFU mode + 'Shift' and STOCK 3.1.2 ispw)

Looked like it was going will, went through various phases unpacking/installing/verifying etc.

Near the end of the process, got a 1600 error. Phone booted to restore mode (pic with itunes and usb)

LEFT PHONE AS IS – didn't remove cable or swap modes or anything

Ran Blackra1n. It worked.

Started process outlined in the above story. Worked like a charm

**IMPORTANT**
Sn0wbreeze creates a file named 'sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3GS.ispw' it was on my desktop, not the folder Sn0wbreeze was stored in.. (that's what got me in the first place) hope this helps some people.

Got a 1604 error, on 3gs with Vista, which is usb timming and would not go further. made new account profile and tried again but by mistake installed original os4 (and not the cooked one) and it worked. tried the cooked one again and it did not, got 1604 again. now i am stuck with al 3gs on os 4 which is not jail broken.

The above guide is wrong. You should not update to iTunes 9.2. Stick with 9.0 if you want this to work, otherwise you will get a 1604 error when updating.

When I go to restore the device from the custom iOS4 it gives me the error 1600. I followed the directions exactly and my iPhone 3G is 3.1.3 with the 05.12.01 baseband.

This may help some people having signal issues after jailbreak. I have a previously JB & unlocked 3GS, old bootrom, firmware 04.26.08. Sn0wbreeze jailbreak worked, had a 4.0 with Cydia but NO SIGNAL. BTW I am on a supported AT&T network and need the unlock for traveling. Turned the WIFI on, ran ultrasn0w unlocked through Cydia… All fixed! Now running a JB, unlocked 4.0. Sn0wbreeze works, just follow the instructions and just in case have your WIFI ready.

Unfortunately I chose the wrong ipsw file on restore and accidently iOS4 image that was not modified by sn0wbreeze. Is there any way I can get my phone back working? this doesnt work for me. I have os 4 and itunes 9.2 (maybe thats the problem) but whenever I load the modified ipsw file it puts my phone into restore mode and doesnt come out of it. I have to manually terminate itunes and then re start itunes and restore to factory settings.

I was on 3.1.2 jailbroken by blackra1n. I accidentally upgraded to 4.0 and my baseband was permanently upgraded to 05.13.04. I have a non-MC model and luckily I had my keys cached with Saurik's server.

After accidentally upgrading, I first tried to restore using the cooked 4.0 IPSW based on the steps above. Did not work.

i was able to get os 4 on my 3gs. but theres no cydia installed to unlock it! when i was running sn0wbreeze it said it was “adding cydia” so i didnt think twice about not having it but its nowhere to be found! so im trying to run sn0wbreeze again to see what happens. any suggestions will be grealty appreciated!

Just rename the file “iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.zip” to .ipsw and you'll be fine.

The same happened to me. Just run the ultrasn0w unlock via Cydia and you'll get the signal. Also, I had to install Push Doctor (also through Cydia) to fix Youtube but now everything works 100%.

Sn0wbreeze puts the modified ipsw on the desktop, thanks for including that in the guide now i have a 3gs updated with the stock ios4, if your using this guide then please restore using the ipsw file located on the desktop after creating the modified firmware.

You have to restore the phone via Itunes but using the firmware that sn0wbreeze put on you desktop. Thats why you have to hold the shit , so itunes will let you choose the firmware, otherwise you will install the original firmware from apple. Read step 8 carefully and you will understand.

The 4.0ipsw was used Sn0wbreeze 1.6 to create custom firmware files
But Itunes gets the error (1600):(

Have old bootrom…..and it worked perfect!

I just wanna add that for 3GS with old bootrom, I didn't do recovery mode or DFU mode and just straight up Restored it from iTunes and it worked.

Also note that I tried doing with DFU mode and ended up getting the 1600 error.

I downloaded following files as instructed above …
1) sn0wbreezeV1.6.1
2) dotnetfx35
3) iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore (it is zip package containing many files but no .ipsw)

i think most of the problems because of this newold bootroom

in the new itunes 9.2 when you get to the 'hold shift and right click' option on windows 7 you have to hold shift while you simply click the restore button

I followed the process to generate the new cooked iphone software for 4.0. When i ran the restore using the new software the restore ended with an error.
ITunes displays the following :

“iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”

My understanding is that the phone will be installed to the latest version of iTunes but not using the cooked iPhone software. I am concerned that it will be impossible to install the cooked software after this process.

Hey im not a genius but i've got the same problem. if ur on windows like me i would suggest getting(downloading) ur ipsw from itunes but not installing it. then use either redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze (i perfer) to make ur custom firmware. then i think u gotta restore it in itunes holding shift. Jailbreak only allows you to download apps free of charge really and some other stuff which im not to sure about but unlocking it allows you to use any sim there is a diffrence between jailbreaking and unlocking but if you get it unlocked you cannot switch your phone off ever otherwise it will reset to factory settings, no way round this.

Can this be done with a never jailbroken 3GS on iOS 4.0? I'm scared to start the process and mess it up if it won't work in the end.

I did hte jailbreak, but when i restored my phone, the utilities icon went away, and everything that was in there came back to the main screen. Also, cydia does not show up. Am i doing something wrong?

your phone have never jailbroken. you have to wait till the dev team release the jailbreak for iOS4.1/4.0.1/4.0 real soon.

we can do nothing beside waiting and play for them to release soon. I got few of iphone stuck with AT&T service a month ago.

you can download for free by choosing free donwload. but it is slow down you internet speed. or you can also google the above mention files. they are storing everywhere and easy to get. You ipod touch 2G will works with that tools.

i downloaded the os4 software for my ipod touch 2g mb model, and when i select the .ipsw file i downloaded from the redmondpie link, it says not a valid ipsw file and wont accept it. what am i doing wrong?!

I have an iphone 3G that I accidentally updated to 4.0.1. I tried to jailbreak this with redsnow, but it wouldn't regognize the ipsw. Then itunes tells me the firmware is not compatible when I try to downgrade to 4.0
If I try the custom firmware (pwnagetool 4.01), I just get errors 1600 and 1604. I tried advice on how to fix these errors, but nothing works.

Okay. Plug the USB cable into your computer. Duh.
With the iPhone not currently plugged in, turn it off.
Now, hold the Home button down, and plug the USB cable into your iPhone, while still holding Home down. Eventually you will see the iTunes logo/USB Cable image on your iPhone screen.
You can let go of the Home button.
Now…your iPhone is in RESTORE MODE, and you should be able to update.
(If you were holding HOME and SLEEP, then letting go of SLEEP…I believe you were putting it into DFU mode…which was giving ME error 1600, but when I did it THE ABOVE WAY…it worked fine for me. SO…give that shit a TRY MUH FUCKA!

i have the 3g with ios4.0 and cant seem to jailbreak with redsn0w. i cant find the .ipsw i downloaded one from a site but it said it was unable to read. someone please help me and tell me what to do.

I have 3GS still on 3.0.1. (old bootrom with baseband 04.26.08) basically I have never used anything above redsn0w 0.92 and the old ultrasn0w. Is it possbile to use the Sn0wbreeze 1.6 for upgrade directly and then unlock using current ultrasn0w?

i have an iphone 3gs with ios 4.0. it wasn´t jailbreaked in 3.1.3 or 3.1.2, because the former owner used it with a regular card. i can´t downgrade it, because i had not saved shsh files. is it now possible to jailbreak with the instructions above? because the instruction say, that the iphone must already jailbroken.
