ZENS Announces World’s First 16-Coil, AirPower-Like Wireless Charging Mat

Apple may have ditched the AirPower wireless charger but other companies continue to work on their own variations on the same theme. Now Dutch company ZENS is the latest to take a stab at it with a charger that packs 16 overlapping coils into one mat.

That means that the ZENS Liberty is capable of charging two devices at the same time no matter where they are placed on the charging mat’s surface. Any Qi-compatible device can be charged via the device with a total output of 30W on offer. There’s a built-in 2.4A USB port that can also be used to charge standard devices, too. Everything hangs off a 45W power adapter that connects to the mat via USB-C, too.

While there are already plenty of similar charging mats on the market, this is the one with the highest number of charging coils. Apple’s ill-fated AirPower was said to have up to 24 coils with power and heat considerations causing its demise before it was ever released. With that in mind, the use of 16 coils here is something that will be interesting to see in use.

If you want to take the ZENS Liberty for a spin, you’ll have to wait until November. At that point, you can pay $139.99 for the standard charger with a limited edition version available for $179.99. For the extra money, you’ll get a see-through charging surface, which sounds pretty epic.

Really, that’s the only one to consider in our minds.
