watchOS 6 Features A New Charging Animation For Apple Watch

The new Mac Pro, Pro Display XDR, and iPadOS 13 may be getting the most attention following Apple’s WWDC opening keynote on Monday but watchOS also received plenty of love.

New watch faces, improved health features, and more were all announced. And there’s even a new charging animation thrown in for good measure.

The arrival of watchOS 6 beta 1 has gone largely unnoticed by many, perhaps because installing beta versions of watchOS is notoriously risky. There’s no way to restore an Apple Watch without taking it to Apple should something go awry, and early betas are often very buggy indeed. That didn’t stop Matt Bircher from taking it for a spin though, and he’s shared a video of the update’s new charging animation, too.

As the video shows, a watch placed onto a wireless charger will display a nice, new charging animation that will then transition on into the corner of the Nightstand Mode interface. It’s nice and fluid and while most people may never notice it, it’s the kind of polish Apple is known for adding.

We have yet to take watchOS 6 for a spin, and we’d suggest you don’t unless you’re a developer who needs to test your apps against it. Bircher notches that his Apple Watch battery is particularly bad right now, and his notifications aren’t coming through either.

That’s the beta life, unfortunately!

Apple announced watchOS 6 alongside iOS 13, macOS 10.15 Catalina, and iPadOS 13 this past Monday.
