Watch: First 2018 MacBook Air Unboxing Videos Surface Online

The first slew of 2018 MacBook Air unboxing videos has started to land and be shared on YouTube. The videos are being created and shared by members of the press and tech community who focus on video blogging and who have been given access to the hardware by Apple.

With the launch of iPhone X in 2018, Cupertino-based Apple took a slightly different but highly interesting approach to its marketing efforts by giving access to prominent YouTubers and video blogging accounts.

By getting social media influencers on its side, Tim Cook’s company was able to unlock an entirely new and modern method of marketing and advertising. Given that it seems to have taken the same approach with this year’s MacBook Air refresh we can only surmise that it was happy with the results of that tactic and the partnerships that were created.

So, with these unboxing videos, potential consumers aren’t going to get a full in-depth review of the new MacBook Air covering things like performance, speed, and overall reliability. However, they are going to get a glimpse at what the product looks like in terms of its physical appearance and size, as well as an opportunity to see what comes in the box with the macOS-powered machine.

YouTube channel TechMeOut has been one of the first to put together and share a vlog of the MacBook Air experience. In that video, we get to see the brand new gold model MacBook Air complete with color-matching stickers and decals which take inspiration from the original 12-inch MacBook.

Apple is also including a USB-C power cable and the same 30W USB-C power adapter which has previously shipped with the aforementioned 12-inch MacBook. It’s likely that we will see more unboxing and first-look videos of MacBook Air hitting the web in the coming days as the chosen YouTubers look to promote their partnership with Apple get the MacBook Air out into the public domain, and ramp up their own views and subscribers in the process as they offer content and access to hardware that no-one else can offer. Yet.

What are your thoughts on Apple’s brand new MacBook Air? Is it on your shopping list or do you think you could make do with an iPad Pro as a replacement for a notebook?
