Apple has finally flipped the switch on tvOS 14! Yes, that’s right, the flip of the switch means that tvOS 14 final version is now out in the public domain. Here’s how to install it on your compatible Apple TV with immediate effect.
Software like watchOS 7 and iOS 14 may have commanded a lot of the attention over the last few months but that shouldn’t devalue tvOS 14 in any shape or form. The Apple TV is a huge platform for Apple – especially with the company’s relatively new streaming service – and that shows with the work that has gone into tvOS 14.
This latest update is somewhat low-key compared to last year’s tvOS 13 release but it does show a lot of love to gamers who consider the Apple TV their gaming hardware of choice. tvOS 14 offers an extremely quick game resume function that wouldn’t be out of place on a powerful console. This means that you can start a game and then pick it up at a later time where you left off. It also offers brand new support for Xbox Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controllers.
If you aren’t a gamer, then you can also benefit from a picture-in-picture model and similar HomeKit updates that are making their way into iOS 14. It may not be a huge update but it is definitely one that’s worth installing if you have a compatible device.
