Facebook's Chat Heads feature, which was rolled out to Android and iOS some time ago, has become a staple part of the experience of using Messenger on mobile. Sure, it's much more integrated on Google's platform due to its open-source nature of Android, but nonetheless, Chat Heads is regarded as a seamless addition to the IM app in general. Since its arrival, many developers have sought to offer something similar for other apps, and one jailbreak dev has taken the idea and manipulated it into an all-new multitasking system for iPhone and iPad. It's easily one of the most intuitive and novel tweaks we've seen during these past few months, adding a new dimension to multitasking on iOS, and if you're still dwelling on that fence, this tweak may well sway you into the world of jailbreaking at last.
After years of begging for it, Notification Center's relatively recent addition to iOS arguably came far too late in the game when compared to the feature that often led people to call Android the king of notifications. Right now, with iOS 8 still fresh in the memory, users of Notification Center will have their own thoughts on where the feature is headed. Now very much part of OS X Yosemite, Notification Center isn't likely to go anywhere soon.
Apple Watch may remain a few months away, with speculation suggesting that the wearable mightn't manifest itself until April at the earliest, but the fascination with the device doesn't seem to be dying out. Since being announced in September alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, horophiles and techies alike have heaped praise on the design as well as the user-interface, and the circular, fluid home screen icon layout looks a master stroke as Apple seeks to offer interactive experiences on the smaller display. Having seen a bunch of tweaks seek to bring this look and feel to the current fleet of iOS devices - such as Aeternum and WatchSpring - a long-serving member of the jailbreak scene has just come through with the most complete tweak yet, and if you're looking to replicate the Apple Watch UI on your iPhone, look no further.
With last year's iPhone 5s, one of the main new additions to the fold was the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, but as is typical of an early new Apple implementation, it was rather limited in terms of functionality. This has been relaxed somewhat in 2014, with third-party support as well as integration with the iPad line-up, but as ever, it has been left up to the jailbreak community to broaden its horizons. moeseth, the guy who brought us Virtual Home at the turn of the new year, is back with a new and improved VirtualHome 8 (iOS 8) tweak for the more recent software, and having earlier offered an insight as to some of its features, it's now available to download via Cydia.

Back when widgets were all the rage on Android and everyone was in awe of the stock clock and weather widget that could be found at the top of all HTC devices’ home screens, the widget itself was held up as an example of the kind of thing that users of iPhones were always going to miss so long as Apple refused to allow widgets. Then jailbreaking came along and made it all possible, but the iPhone's relatively small screen never really leant itself to having something so large at the top of the screen.
WhatsApp is among the most popular instant messaging app around, and having been acquired by Facebook recently by a colossal amount, is considered the de facto cross-platform IM service. But despite its array of features, it's still not complete, and WhatsApp+ has long offered Android users the perks that many would deem to be missing. Now, WhatsApp+ has arrived for iOS 7 and iOS 8, and while being jailbroken is the key prerequisite, the list of enhancements to WhatsApp suggest that it's a tweak worth jailbreaking for.
There are some features that sound absolutely awesome but you just know that they will never see the light of day on iOS. Android can be argued as having some of the cooler, more geek-friendly features when compared to iOS, and if there's a little bit of the tinkerer inside you then that probably grates your gears.
One feature conspicuous by its absence in the lead-up to iOS 8 was the ability to smoothly reply to messages without having to move away from the task in hand. With the new software update, that all changed, with Messages now offering a quick reply functioning in a vaguely similar fashion to how jailbreak tweak BiteSMS has done for many a year now, and if you're in the market for something like-minded for third-party apps, well, there's yet another tweak for that.
Apple has long received flak for not giving people the widgets that they seem to so desperately want. The addition of widgets to Notification Center may have gone some way to keeping those people happy, but if you're the kind of person that has always wanted the big HTC weather widget on your iPhone's home screen, then Apple isn't likely to give you what you want any time soon.
