In a surprising move, instead of taking on Nintendo DS line of portable gaming, Sony takes a shot at Apple and its iPhone / iOS gaming system by calling it “that isn't built for big boy games, that is built for texting your grandma and calling your girl”. Seriously Sony? you are comparing a full-fledged portable gaming console to a multi-functional smartphone? Something is surely not right at Sony, they are probably thinking that they have missed their opportunity at cell phone gaming market with a possible PlayStation Phone. And so now they want us to believe that paying for old PSP collection at $10 is better than paying for App Store games on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Cant wait for the official version? and want to get CineXPlayer for iPad on your iPhone and iPod touch right now? For those of you who don’t know, CineXPlayer is an iPad only app which allows you to load Xvid AVI files via iTunes so that you can easily play the format which Apple doesn’t allow. Since the developer hasn’t come up with an iPhone version of the app, a hacker decided to do it all by himself. You can check out the video after the break.
Adobe today has released a new version of Photoshop for all iOS based devices, in the process rebranding the old and limited functional Photoshop.com Mobile app for iPhone to Adobe Photoshop Express. This new version brings a new and improved UI, support for iPad, and a whole bunch of new features for the iPad version, which of course makes sense given the larger screen space of the device. One downside? It still lacks support for iPhone 4’s Retina Display, which is a big disappointment in my opinion. Anyhow, the official change log of Adobe Photoshop Express version 1.3 is as follows.
There are tons of useful and cool apps out there on the Cydia Store. A recent addition to them is Locktopus, a neat little app which allows you to password protect your apps on your iPhone or iPod touch, preventing unwanted access to your private information.
Signal is a new app available on Cydia for the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G which displays all the information of cell towers around you on a map in great detail. It’s a nifty little utility which you might have always asked for but never got. The description of the app is as follows.
The newly released jailbreak tool named JailbreakMe 2.0 Star makes use of a PDF vulnerability which is present in iOS’ Mobile Safari browser. Now that JailbreakMe has been released, and that the exploit is public, hackers can make use of this exploit by making you download a PDF file in Safari, in the process installing some malicious code to ultimately take control of your iOS device.
While there are many third-party iPhone App Stores like Cydia around, the problem with them is that they all require jailbreaking of iPhone, which even though has gone 100 percent legal isn't something which every iPhone user will do. Comes in OpenAppMkt, a new web-based third-party app store for all iOS based devices which consists of apps, completely written in HTML format. OpenAppMkt runs in browser and installation of apps simply require a simple tap on: "add to home" button.
Its finally here! Skype app for iPhone and iPod touch has finally been updated to support the new multitasking feature in iOS 4. With this new feature, you can now receive calls and instant messages with the app minimized in the multitasking tray.
An independent Vietnamese iPhone developer by the name of “Thuat Nguyen” currently has 42 of the top 50 books in the iTunes App Store “Books Category”. Most of these books/apps were released back in April this year and have little to no user ratings at all. Well then how are they dominating this iTunes category? It has been reported that a large number of iTunes accounts have been hacked, with as many as $600 dollars being spent from a single account without the consent of the account holder to buy these apps – hence making it to the top of the charts.
The new Game Center which was available for testing purposes on pre-release GM version of iOS 4 was removed from the final public build which was released on June 21st. This was because Game Center was not ready for primetime use and so Apple rightly removed it from the final build. If you saved the Game Center files from iOS 4 GM build, you now can get it installed again on your jailbroken iOS 4 device.
