Coffee-peddling franchise Starbucks grabbed itself a bit of additional airtime by being among the first companies to offer support for Apple's Passbook feature of iOS 6. As is often the case, support didn't stretch outside the borders of the United States, but today, support for consumers in the United Kingdom has been added, as well as Canada.
Social networking apps are always popular on any mobile platform, and the iOS App Store certainly has a fairly sizeable amount of them to choose from. If you prefer to shy away from the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Path and prefer something a little more personal and unique then the Tracks app for iPhone and iPod touch could definitely be something worth exploring.
We've seen plenty of photo based applications on the App Store as well as a boatload of social networking variants, some of which are worldwide successes like Instagram and Facebook while others are more niche and used by only a select few. The Blurtopia iPhone and iPod touch app that recently landed in the App Store seems to be an amalgamation of a few genres but prefers to differentiate itself by being the application that can help us answer life's questions with the help of an active and engaged community.
The original HTCLock tweak has been on the Cydia store for quite some time and has managed to rake up thousands of downloads from those who wanted to tweak the iOS lock screen to have a little bit more of the HTC Android flavor in it. Implementing the highly regarded HTC design on the iPhone and iPod touch obviously proved popular as it changed the default behavior and added the option to invoke a number of apps without having to unlock the device first. The same developer has now continued on with that tweak and released the HTClock Pro version that bundles in additional features and enhancements.
Anyone who happens to own a Mac will more than likely be familiar with The Unarchiver application that seems to be the de facto standard for uncompressing zip and other archived files. Other apps obviously exist but The Unarchiver seems to be able to handle any type of file that is thrown at it with minimal fuss. The Archives iOS application for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad has been created based on that OS X application and offers the same functionality, power and handling capabilities of its Mac based sibling.
Although nobody was necessarily anticipating it, SEGA America made a pretty significant revelation in the gaming world recently by announcing Crazy Taxi for iOS, and, honoring its word of an October release, has just pushed the classic title through to Apple's App Store.
Although iOS 6 has generally been classed as a triumph and definitely represents evolution of the software, there are still some users who feel that Apple has regressed with certain aspects of the firmware. Long time iOS device owners are used to firing up the Maps app and getting information fed back from the trusted Google Maps service, something that is non-existent in a stock installation of iOS 6 thanks to the inclusion of Apple's own vector-based mapping app. Some people just don't like change, and if you happen to be one of those people then the ClassicMap app on the App Store might be what you need.
If big game creators ever join forces to produce some kind of hybrid mashup, then I undoubtedly want to see Sonic the Hedgehog meet Super Mario, Master Chief from Halo running around Liberty City causing mayhem or see either Guile or Chun-Li coming up against the mean Samurai machine that is Tekken's Kunimitsu. Unfortunately, we aren't that lucky to be able to pick and choose certain elements from various games that we would like to play, but Capcom has taken the lead and created the crossover battle to beat them all.
Apps that allow users to quickly and efficiently edit photographs on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch have always been popular offerings in the App Store, and as of this week, there is a new pretender to the throne in the form of the Gridditor app from Tai Shimizu. Gridditor lives within the Photography section and allows users to quickly edit and organize photographs in an attractive interface that manages to throw up some excellent filter combinations.
If you've ever been interested in the stock market, but have found many of the readings and jargon difficult to grasp, then you're certainly not alone, and as well as offering up-to-date information around the clock, StockTouch for iOS aids to break things down for those feeling somewhat intimidated by your traditional stock apps.
