When Apple announced iOS 7 last year it made a big fuss out of the considerable changes that the new version would bring to our iPhones,iPads and iPod touches. A whole new interface, a redesigned Camera app and more were touted as some of the biggest changes, with countless others thrown in for good measure. Over the months since and as the release day drew closer, some features fell by the wayside and others were introduced. In September, iOS 7 was released.
Jailbreaking is often all about skinning iOS, making things look the way people want them to and giving tweakers the power to alter just about any aspect of the interface, no matter how big or small. But there's so much more in jailbreaking, with some of the best reasons to go through the process being some of the tweaks that add functionality that Apple would probably never sanction.
Choosing whether or not to go with iOS or Android doesn't always come down to the available hardware - although that definitely helps - with the decision often resting on the available apps and software that exist for each platform. So sometimes we see jailbreak tweaks pop up that wow us immediately, and then sometimes we see tweaks that have us wondering why anyone would really use them beyond the initial novelty factor. Somehow, Touchy for iPhone 5s fits squarely into both of those categories, and with good reason.
One of the most popular iOS jailbreak themes on Cydia has to be Ayecon, from Surenix. It's been around in various guises for some time now, and has been installed on more iPhones, iPads and iPod touches than we care to guess, and we're sure it'll be installed on countless more too. In fact, we're particularly confident about that now that Surenix has announced via a blog post that Ayecon for iOS 7 is almost ready for primetime.
Finally, the wait is over! Jay Freeman, who is more widely known as Saurik, has released updated version of WinterBoard that fully supports all devices running iOS 7, including the newer ones on ARM64 like iPhone 5s, iPad Air and Retina iPad mini.
Although the likes of BiteSMS's recent arrival have shown just what the Cydia Store can offer iOS users who dare to enter the dark side of jailbreaking, it's often a collection of small, subtle tweaks that truly enhance the experience of using an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you're a hopeless nostalgic, and miss that old unlocking sound that Jony Ive and the Gang decided to eradicate with iOS 7, then UnlockSound7 is one small mod that will restore a sense of familiarity to proceedings. Check out the details after the break!
