Apple took on the big names in the music streaming space when it announced Apple Music at WWDC this year. However, that doesn’t mean that Apple’s competitors in this space will just sit and not do anything. Today, the Mountain View company announced its free music streaming tier to the already-rich Google Play Music, which will basically serve as a curated, ad-supported radio station selection for non-subscribers (read: free users) of the search giant’s music offering. The new free tier of Google Play Music is all set to take on Apple’s iTunes Radio service, and the upcoming Beats 1 radio station, which is going to be a part of Apple Music.

What came close to the awesomeness that Rocket Raccoon was with his British Cockney accent and wits in Guardians of the Galaxy was the chart busting soundtrack of the movie, with one song in particular – “Hooked on a Feeling” – totaling over 16 million counts of streaming. Thanks to the likes of Google Play Music, accessing the content of our favorite artists and bands is now much easier than ever. Although many of us now utilize services like Spotify in order to stream music, the art of buying a song we happen to like is not completely obsolete, and in the case of Google Play Music’s new freebie offer, you don’t always have to stump up any money. For a presumably limited time, you can pick up full songs from artists like Katy Perry and Daft Punk completely free, and given that we don’t know how long the offer’s going to last, you’ll want to get in quickly to avoid disappointment.

Killing two birds with one stone, the Mountain View-based company has brought official Play Music support to Glass, meaning Explorers can now, if they so choose, enjoy the sweet sound of their favorite tunes through the Glass Accessory Store’s extortionately highly-priced ear buds.

In May, Google revealed that its “All Access” music app would be hitting iOS, and since the search giant also noted that it was just a few weeks away, we expected to be grooving to some of our favorite songs through the service by summertime. Although it did seem as though the Android maker had completely forgotten about those on Apple’s mobile OS, we now know this not to be the case, as the Google Play Music app has just hit the iOS App Store. Full details, as well as that download link, can be seen after the fold.

It may not have been the biggest announcement made at Google’s I/O developer conference, but the unveiling of the company’s Google Play Music All Access service outlined the Big G’s intentions to compete with the modern day streaming music services. Google Music has provided a platform for music fans to listen to and store some of their favorite tracks, but with All Access thrown into the mix, the likes of Spotify and Pandora now have a genuine contender from Mountain View. The accompanying app was updated for Android straight away, and while any kind of Google Music app for iOS has been conspicuous by its absence, Google has announced a version for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users is now incoming.
