Sony’s PS5 Is Their Biggest Console Launch Yet

Sony’s PS5 launch is now complete and while there have been stories of next to no stock and scalpers buying anything that made its way to stores, it doesn’t seem to have prevented it from being a hugely successful launch. So successful that Sony says the PS5 launch has already outshone that of the PS2.

Oh, and the PS2 was the previous leader in terms of console launches. Ever.

We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.

Importantly Sony also says that inventory of new consoles will be reaching retailers before the end of the year, although that couldn’t still mean that buyers might miss out on a PS5 this holiday season.

Sony’s console isn’t the only new product on the market with Microsoft also selling Xbox Series S and Series X consoles hand over fist, although it was always likely that Sony’s launch would be the biggest. The sheer volume of PS5s sold and the demand that it’s been unable to meet does seem to have taken Sony by surprise, though.

Hopefully everyone still trying to get hold of a PS5 is able to do so sooner rather than later.
