Some SD Cards Aren’t Working With Apple’s New 14 And 16-inch MacBook Pros

Apple’s new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks have been well received by just about everyone who bought one, but a troubling issue is beginning to rear its head for people who use the newly-returned SD card slow.

According to those people some SD cards refuse to work correctly — if they even work at all.

While there doesn’t appear to be any particular pattern to which SD cards work and which don’t, the issues do seem to be similar across the board — some SD cards are causing Finder to crash and even when they work, transfer speeds aren’t what they might be expected to be.

It’s very frustrating. I was hoping that import from SD card including preview of images would be quick on my new 14″ MBP. I have a fairly new 64GB SD card which had been working fine. But Photos on the MBP using the internal SD card slot takes minutes to show photos and sometimes crashes half way through. Sometimes the Finder crashes too

Thankfully, a MacRumors report notes that some users have been told that Apple is aware of some sort of issue and that a fix is in the works. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know when that fix will be made available so it could be a while yet. If you’re struggling getting work done right now, we’d suggest picking up an external SD card reader for the time being.
