One thing that OS X has always excelled at in comparison to Microsoft’s widely used desktop OS, are the platform’s aesthetics. Windows has a long way to go before it can even remotely catch up to the beautiful graphics and rendering of OS X, and that is one of the primary reasons for the existence of several methods, skin packs, tips and software that help Windows users emulate some OS X features on their PCs.
The iPad Air and Retina iPad mini 2 are making rounds of the Internet these days, but that doesn’t mean the older generation devices are to be forgotten just yet. We already saw a price cut for the first-gen iPad mini alongside the announcement for newer devices, but now it appears the Cupertino company has also (silently, I must add) dropped a Space Gray version of the original iPad mini, through its select retail stores and its online store as well.
Whenever a new OS is released on any platform, there usually lies a series of hidden gems and goodies within, and OS X Mavericks, which released earlier on this week at Apple's special iPad event, is no exception to the rule. As well as the new stock wallpapers, there are 43 "hidden" backgrounds on offer to those on the new, California-themed flavor of OS X, and although they don't necessarily relate to the fruit company's home state, they are still rather easy on the eye. If you are looking for some alternative backdrops for your newly-updated Mac, then check out the details after the jump!
After a period of long wait, which almost feels like forever, Tweetbot 3 for iPhone has been finally released on the App Store, and as promised by its dev a while back, has been redesigned from the ground up to cater to the look and feel of iOS 7. More details and as well as direct App Store link can be found right here.
There have been software updates flying around like confetti for the last few days, and while the Mac, iPhone, iPad and even the iPod touch have all received new versions of their software recently, it seems that someone inside Apple still had time to remember the company's hobby.
This year, Microsoft has been working hard to make its Office productivity suite more widely accessible, and Apple has responded by doing likewise with iWork. The iOS and Mac versions of iWork - which comprises of Pages, Keynote and Numbers - are now essentially free of charge, to those who recently bought a new iOS device or a Mac. But now, it has emerged that thanks to a bug with the Mac App Store, many of those running the trial version have been able to upgrade to the full, no-holds-barred version for absolutely nothing, and the same goes for iLife and Aperture.
You'd have thought, given that Samsung has recently garnered negative press for its benchmark faking tactics, that the Korean giant would be keeping its nose clean, but after an investigation by Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission (FTC), the company has to pay a fine of hundreds of thousands of dollars for negative comments made about competitors. As with the benchmark scandal, the issue dates back some time, and with Samsung having also been caught out paying for positive reviews, the investigation will now see Samsung pay the penalty.
The Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 have seen the light of the day, and as any other company would do, the Redmond technology giant is all about marketing and promoting the new hardware, to make sure that they become a true success. We’ve seen a lot of marketing ploys in the past as well - and not just from Microsoft, either - including Google’s Android statues and Apple’s TV ads. However, never once have we seen anything like what Microsoft has done in London’s Trafalgar Square, where the company has placed a 27 feet wide and 17 feet tall mockup of the newly-released Surface 2, all in the name of good marketing.
When you're on the way down it can often feel like events somehow transpire against you. It can almost feel like the world is against you, and that you just can't catch a break. We can't help but think that's exactly what the people at BlackBerry are feeling like right now.
Yesterday was undoubtedly a pretty big day for iPad lovers. Not only did Apple dish up a refreshed iPad but it also changed its name to the relatively unpopular iPad Air. Alongside the new Retina iPad mini 2, the new iPad Air takes the original iPad and improves upon it in all kinds of ways.
