Next Gen. MacBook Pro Likely To Feature An SD Card Reader Slot

Where Apple has done a great job at designing its more recent MacBook range, connectivity and ports have left a lot to be desired. A new report though, suggests that Apple’s next MacBook Pro models will feature an SD card reader slot.

With the launch of the M1-powered Macs, rumors of a redesigned MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have since been doing the rounds, with some significant changes expected, including multiple ports and more importantly, MagSafe charging.

The earlier reports in particular did not mention which ports are to be expected on the MacBook Pro, but we did get a hint of things to come when told by renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that most users will not need to purchase additional dongles which has become a thing post 2015 MacBooks.

With that in hindsight, an SD card slot on the Pro range looks likely, along with a DisplayPort / HDMI connection. Return of the USB-A ports is unlikely given the industry’s progression towards the Type-C connector.

The upcoming MacBook Pro is an example of Apple’s renewed focus on Mac loyalists. The company is planning to bring back an SD card slot for the next MacBook Pros so users can insert memory cards from digital cameras. That feature was removed in 2016, to the consternation of professional photographers and video creators, key segments of the MacBook Pro user base.

New MacBook Pros are expected by Autumn this year, but reports have eluded to a timeframe at the end of this year. A new 14-inch model is also expected, and will likely replace the 13-inch model in the long run.

This and a new 16-inch MacBook Pro are expected to feature mini-LED displays, with a high-end MacBook Air also rumored to appear by the end of this year.
