Netatmo’s HomeKit-Compatible Smart Door Lock Uses NFC Keys

Smart home company Netatmo has announced a new door lock that also makes use of a special key, too. The Netatmo Smart Door Lock and Keys will arrive in the second half of this year although no pricing has been made available as yet.

When it does ship each Smart Lock will come with three keys that actually pair with the lock via NFC.

Those keys will work with any of the company’s locks once paired, so one key could be used to access your home, office, and anywhere else if you like. You can of course use the Netatmo app, too,

Netatmo says you can expect around two years of battery life from the four AAA batteries that power the lock, with micro USB also available if the lock finds itself completely dead, too.

There are of course plenty of the standard features we’ve come to expect from these kinds of locks. You can give people temporary access to your home via their phone, and the addition of HomeKit support allows you to pair this with all manner of accessories in various automation setups. You’ll be able to have your lights come on as you unlock the door, for example.

All of this sounds pretty impressive, but as is often the case it’s impossible to judge the Netatmo Smart Door Lock and Keys until we see the price. That should be coming soon, though.
