iPhone 8 Dual-Boot Running iOS 13 And Linux Without Jailbreak Shown Off

Some people will do some really crazy things with iPhones and one developer has proven that fact pretty conclusively. According to a post to Twitter, they have been able to dual boot an iPhone with both iOS 13.3 and Linux. Because why not?

While we’ve seen similar things happen on older iPhones, this is the first time we’ve seen it done on a 64-bit device.

Namely, an iPhone 8. The device is jailbroken, obviously, but beyond that there isn’t much more in the tweet. There are three photos attached to the tweet but, that’s it.

Where this will go from here is anyone’s guess, and while plenty of people won’t have much use for running Linux on an iPhone the fact it’s even possible is impressive. It might even have implications for further jailbreak tweaks and whatnot. Maybe we could even see other Linux builds making their way to iPhones – or iPads – in the future with all eyes on Ubuntu Touch in particular.

If you want to take a stab at doing this for yourself, you can. The developer has shared details about what’s needed and how to go about it, but be warned. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
