Keeping with the recent and extremely welcome tradition of keeping jailbreak fans in the loop about the progress of upcoming work, iPhone Dev Team leader MuscleNerd has again taken to his Twitter timeline to let his followers and jailbreak enthusiasts know about the intimate details of the iOS 5.1.1 untether.
Some of the information contained is related to the fact that the individuals involved are hoping to push the jailbreak out by the end of this week, but as is always the case when it comes to release dates, users should keep an open mind in case any unexpected last minute issues occur. The majority of the offered information relates to the behind-the-scene events that have been happening throughout the production of the jailbreak, and although it isn’t relevant to the usage of the new tools, it is extremely interesting and worth knowing.
As we already knew, all devices capable of running iOS 5.1.1 will be covered by the jailbreak when it is released, with the exception of the third-generation Apple TV which currently has no path available for jailbreaking. So yes, if you don’t rely on an unlock, you are safe to update your iOS device to the latest iOS 5.1.1 today.
MuscleNerd has also revealed that legendary developer Planetbeing stepped in to save the day for iPod 3,1 and iPhone 2,1 users after the initial kernel exploit that was discovered by westbaer precluded those devices.
Perhaps more interestingly, the released information also gives an insight into the tools that will be available to users. As we know, the Absinthe tool will be updated with the latest files and exploits, but it has also become apparent that Redsn0w will be updated with the jailbreak plus untether as well as a new command line interface tool. The three different tools can also be used without issue to jailbreak 5.1.1 devices.
MuscleNerd finishes off his ‘Quick info sheet’ by confirming that they are hoping to push out the jailbreak by the end of this week, but as always this shouldn’t be taken as gospel as there are a number of things that can affect the release.
