iOS 11.2.6 SEP And Baseband Are Compatible With iOS 11.1.2, Here’s What That Means For Jailbreak Users

With the current state of the jailbreak scene, it’s about time that we had a small glimmer of positivity. In a community where jailbreaks are dangerously close to being abandoned, talented developers leaving the scene to pursue an Android dream, and fighting and arguing seems to be the norm, a small ray of positive light is shining through with the fact that we now know that iOS 11.2.6 Baseband and SEP are compatible with iOS 11.1.2.

We have taken the opportunity to test out the situation ourselves and are happy to report back to the community about this finding.

So yes, it seems that Apple’s release of iOS 11.2.6 indeed ships with a Baseband and Secure Enclave Processor (SEP) which is compatible with the last publicly jailbreakable version of Apple’s mobile platform, which is iOS 11.1.2. This means that device owners will be able to restore iOS 11.1.2 in order to jailbreak with CoolStar’s Electra iOS 11 jailbreak tool as long as they have the relevant SHSH2 blobs saved for that firmware version, and are ready to tinker with futurerestore.

We have tested the process and compatibility on an iPhone 5s multiple times with success.

Although it’s important to note here that since iOS 11.3 betas don’t have a compatible SEP with iOS 11.1.2, what this means is that this might be the last chance for an iOS 11.1.2 restore via futurerestore as iOS 11.3 and beyond won’t ship with a compatible SEP.

But with iOS 11.3 still in betas, and latest signed versions for public firmwares being iOS 11.2.6 and iOS 11.2.5, this without a doubt is a good news for a certain subset of users who may want to restore iOS 11.1.2 to jailbreak even if there isn’t any real structure or stability in the jailbreak community at the moment.

As you may already know, Jay Freeman, also known as saurik and the creator of Cydia, still hasn’t provided an iOS 11 compatibility update for Cydia and Substrate.

Luckily, CoolStar, who developed and published Electra, and appeared to have taken a hiatus from social media by slowly sinking into the shadows to distance himself from the community, has just returned back to the scene. In that light, this is definitely a small win in a community which has bigger battles to fight.
