How To Add Animated Weather Wallpaper To iOS 8 Home Screen And Lock Screen [Video]

Apple has long received flak for not giving people the widgets that they seem to so desperately want. The addition of widgets to Notification Center may have gone some way to keeping those people happy, but if you’re the kind of person that has always wanted the big HTC weather widget on your iPhone’s home screen, then Apple isn’t likely to give you what you want any time soon.

So you’ll just have to get it yourself. Or, to be more precise, something even better.

WeatherBoard is a jailbreak tweak that is available to download from Cydia right now and costs $2.49. It has just been updated to support iOS 8. The price may seem like a lot as far as jailbreak tweaks go, but when you see the thing in action it will seem like a bargain.

That’s because WeatherBoard does one thing and does it very well. Once installed and activated, WeatherBoard takes either the current weather from a preselected city or a weather type chosen by the user and then overlays it onto the iPhone’s home screen and lock screen. The result is an animated weather wallpaper that looks gorgeous.

The animations themselves cover all the weather types you could possibly wish for. Sun, rain, tropical storms and snow are all accounted for amongst others, and assuming you don’t happen to live in a black hole then we suspect WeatherBoard will have you covered. Being able to choose a location and have WeatherBoard reflect what is going on outside the window is pretty awesome too, and you can even change how often WeatherBoard will update the data required to pull it off.

WeatherBoard is one of those tweaks that isn’t hugely useful unless you’re truly obsessed with weather, but the fact it exists and the loveliness of the way it looks has us giving it the thumbs up regardless.
