Game Of Thrones S7E1 Torrent Downloaded / Streamed 90 Million Times

It appears that Game of Thrones S7E1 torrent was downloaded and streamed 90 million times. Here are the details.

The premiere of the seventh season of Game of Thrones has been everywhere online this week, in more ways than one. While the hype for the new release has been bigger than ever, the first episode has been available across the Internet in both legal and illegal ways, and it is the latter that is causing headlines right now.

And now according to a new report, season seven, episode one of Game of Thrones was pirated over 90,000,000 times since its release on Sunday evening. That’s 90 million. Let’s just allow that to sink in for a moment. The vast majority of those illegal views came from the relatively new torrent-based streaming sites that have appeared over the past couple of years (77,913,032 to be exact,) with both public and private torrent trackers making up the majority of the remainder (8,356,382 and 523,109 respectively.)

Interestingly the ever popular Usenet is not included in the count at all, so the number will obviously be even higher than the 90 million figure being thrown around. Direct download sites apparently account for 4,949,298 downloads, according to the report.

The numbers come courtesy of piracy monitoring firm MUSO, although its stats have been questioned because of the way they are collected. MUSO uses a third-party’s numbers based on 23 thousand of the most-used sources of piracy.

According to MUSO, the following countries had the highest number of pirated downloads:

United States of America: 15,075,951
United Kingdom: 6,252,903
Germany: 4,897,280
India: 4,335,331
Indonesia: 4,286,927
Philippines: 4,189,030
Canada: 3,182,851
France: 2,881,467
Turkey: 2,802,458
Vietnam: 2,436,149
Australia: 2,241,463
Russian Federation: 2,196,799
Netherlands: 1,881,718
Brazil: 1,796,759
Malaysia: 1,737,005

Even if that 90 million number is somewhere close to being accurate, that’s a lot of downloads and streams even for a series that has previously broken records for being the most pirated show ever. Now to see what kind of numbers episode two manages to pull in!
