Facebook Home For Android Gets An Update, Brings Folders To The Home Screen

Facebook Home, the Android launcher replacement and HTC First pusher has received an update in the last 24 hours, with users receiving a very important new feature, and one we’re sure they’ll be using extensively in the days to come. That new feature, only just making its way to Home, is the ability to create folders on the device’s home screen.

If you’re struggling to get excited by that prospect, then it could be for one of a few reasons. Firstly, it’s entirely possible, if not probable that you’ve never installed Home and as such simply don’t care. That’s fine, we suspect most are in that boat.

It’s also possible that you’ve installed Facebook Home at some point and gotten tired of not being able to do something that at this point is pretty much standard fare for all modern smartphones. That is, all except the HTC First until now. We’re not entirely sure why it has taken this long for Facebook to get around to adding this most basic of features to its struggling home launcher replacement, nor indeed why it wasn’t there in the first place. What we do know is that this update will no doubt go largely unnoticed at this point as everyone who give it a whirl early on seems to have already jumped ship.

Even if the ability to create folders was the last thing holding you back from getting down and dirty with Facebook Home, you’re still out of luck if you’re the proud owner of a Galaxy S4 or HTC One, as neither are officially supported by Facebook’s Home. That may be part of the reason for the launcher’s dismal rating on the Google Play Store, with reviews being less than complimentary all round. It’s debatable as to what Facebook has gained from its half hearted attempt at taking control of mobile, and we’re sure they are happy with their decisions. We’re just not sure anyone else is.

With Facebook Home for Android almost an afterthought for many, it will take more than a few folders to breathe new life into Facebook Home.
