COVID-19 Vaccination Recipients In LA County Can Add Proof Of Vaccination To Apple Wallet

If you’re a resident of the Los Angeles County, and have or are about to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, can have a digital record saved in the Apple Wallet app.

Powered by Healthvana, which is a patient engagement platform, these digital records will help ensuring that people come back for the second shot after having received the first dose of the vaccination.

Reported by Bloomberg, there’s also speculation that this record could then also be used as proof of vaccination.

Claire Jarashow, LA’s Director of Vaccine Preventable Disease Control says:

We’re really concerned. We really want people to come back for that second dose…We just don’t have the capacity to be doing hundreds of medical record requests to find people’s first doses and when they need to get their second.

Of course, all records of being treated with the vaccine are being registered elsewhere as well, with a paper card being issued to those vaccinated, but as is with most things paper, it can be lost or damaged. Having a digital record should help in that regard.

It is reported that all data collected each night will be shared to Healthvana, where it will be stored on AWS’ HIPAA-compliant servers. Jarashow expresses complete trust on the information being shared and stored on these servers.
