WhatsApp For iOS Finally Updated With Support For iPhone 5 And iOS 6

Ben Reid·November 17, 2012
WhatsApp Messenger is the go-to instant messaging app for those looking to communicate for free cross-platform. With an app for Symbian, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and iOS, it covers most of the market, and the version for those using an iPhone has just been updated. While there are no significant new features or noteworthy alterations, version 2.8.6 does bring some welcome performance enhancements for those running on the new iOS 6 software and / or the iPhone 5.

US Judge Permits Both Apple And Samsung To Include Jelly Bean And iPhone 5 In Ongoing Patent Dispute

Ben Reid·November 16, 2012
Scarcely a week goes by without significant developments in the continual Apple vs. Samsung legal battle, and with Samsung forewarning Apple it would immediately bring the iPhone 5 into the dispute upon release, the Korean company has stayed true to its word. Both Samsung and Apple have recently requested newer devices be added to the fold, and US Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal has today given the Galaxy maker the go-ahead to include the iPhone 5.

WSJ: Google Maps App For iOS With Turn-by-Turn Navigation Incoming

Ben Reid·November 16, 2012
iOS users have been tripping over themselves to pour scorn on Apple's lackluster Maps offering, and even though Tim Cook released a public apology for the disastrous native app, consumers are still waiting to see most of the promised improvements bear fruit. Many have pined for Google to bring a app that at least gives the same functionality as the pre-iOS 6 version of iOS Maps to iOS 6, and although that may seem a simple enough concept, Google has been dragging its heels somewhat. Now though, it has emerged that a native Google Maps app could reach the App Store by the end of the year, and as the Wall Street Journal reports, the Mountain View-based search giant is applying the finishing touches before submitting.

Here’s How You Can Make Any Portrait Capable iOS App Support Upside Down Orientation

Paul Morris·November 15, 2012
We've known for quite some time that Ryan Petrich is probably one of the hardest working and most productive developers in the jailbreak community, but if we need further proof regarding that notion; a wave of tweaks were released in Cydia bearing his name. Although a lot of the developer’s packages often land on his own private repository for testing purposes, a number of them were pushed out to the main repo for everyone to take advantage of. One of the simplest releases, but one that a lot of users may find useful is the UpsideDown package that pretty does exactly what the name suggests.

olloclip For iPhone 5 Offers Three Different Lenses, Ships At End Of The Month

Ben Reid·November 15, 2012
olloclip, the company behind the self-named 3-in-1 photo lens attachment for the iPhone recently named an honoree at the CES Innovations Awards, has now readied a version for the iPhone 5 and it's ready to preorder. The iPhone is utilized by many as the only means of photography, and with innovative peripherals like the olloclip at large, it's not too difficult to see why.

This Solution Can Apparently Fix Poor Wi-Fi Performance On iPhone 5

Ben Reid·November 15, 2012
The release of the iPhone 5 has, by and large, gone without major incident. The Antennagate scandal of two years ago with the iPhone 4 was regarded as the biggest tech fail of that particular year, and while the battery issue plagued a few iPhone 4S handsets back in October 2011, the software-related Maps app has been the only real issue this time around. With that said, not everybody has had such a great first two months with their shiny new device, and while a couple of complaints have arisen with regards to scratching of the anodized aluminum, some have had to contend with the altogether more pressing issue of poor Wi-Fi performance.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak To Star In iOS Gaming Title, Releasing Next Week

Ben Reid·November 15, 2012
Steve Wozniak, known to most simply as "Woz" was part of the original Apple team alongside Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne, and although the Cupertino co-founder prefers to spend his days enjoying all forms of technology, giving seminars and following philanthropic ventures, it was always written that he'd return to the Apple fold in one way or another. While he won't, of course, be chipping in on how to move forward with iOS, or mulling over the hardware implementations of the next MacBook, he will be gracing the App Store next week as a character in a shoot-'em-up title for the iPhone. Sound interesting? More after the jump!

How To Speed Up iOS Interface Animations Throughout The OS

Paul Morris·November 14, 2012
Although iOS is one of the faster and more fluid mobile operating systems out there when it comes to viewing UI animations, it seems that jailbreak fans do seem to love a good Cydia package that gives the impression that the system is performing faster that it actually is. In the past we have had tweaks such as ClockWind that existed to boost animation speed, so users perceive it to be faster than it actually is, and now we have a tweak called Accelerate that is claiming to be the revival of iOS, although we aren't to sure that it was in such a state that it needed revival.

Battery Status For iPhone Delivers Useful Voice Reminders Of How Much Battery You Are Left With

Ben Reid·November 14, 2012
The only thing worse than having little or no battery left on a mobile device, I find, is knowing you had ample time to put it right. You thought the one hour charge would be enough to fill up, only to find when you're about to leave that your device's juice levels are still not at their peak. We live in the midst of a "there's an app for that" culture, but such has been the advancement of Cydia over the past few years, that the same can now be said for tweaks. If you're looking for a tweak to help you better manage your battery, well, there's a tweak for that.
