Suspects Behind WireLurker iOS Malware Arrested By Chinese Authorities, Site Shut Down

Oliver Haslam·November 18, 2014
The threat posed by the WireLurker malware that has been infecting Macs and iOS devices has only recently come to light, but following a tip-off from local security company Qihoo 360 Technology, Chinese authorities arrested three individuals that it suspects are behind the malware. WireLurker infected thousands of mobile devices in the country after users unwittingly installed it via a third-party app store.

Sony’s New 4K-Ready, 21-Megapixel Exmor RS Sensor Could Make It To Next iPhone

Ben Reid·November 18, 2014
Sony has just débuted a new image sensor for mobile devices that incorporates a "stacked" design, which offers a more compact form factor while still improving dramatically on overall performance. Given that Apple tends to subscribe to this ethos of scaling everything down with each new hardware release, allied to the fact that Sony is a manufacturing partner of the Cupertino's, and it's reasonable to speculate that the next-gen iPhone (and iPad) devices could reap the benefits of the 21-megapixel Exmor RS IMX230.

Substrate Safe Mode 0.9.5000 Released, A Must-Download For Jailbroken Devices

Ben Reid·November 18, 2014
If you've been jailbreaking for a fair amount of time, then you'll be more than familiar with Substrate Safe Mode. It's designed to help your device remain usable when conflicts arise, allowing you to resolve the issue and remove the problematic package(s) or extensions with as little incident as possible. It's not the most welcome of situations, since it only arises when there's a crash of some description, but it is a necessity in helping your device to recover, and with Substrate Safe Mode having just been updated in Cydia, this is one package you'll want to download and install at the soonest opportunity.

How To Enable Slo-Mo Feature On Unsupported iOS 8 iPhone And iPad

Oliver Haslam·November 17, 2014
Apple's introduction of the slo-mo feature with the iPhone 5s has proven itself to be extremely popular amongst users, and not just when filming videos of dogs jumping to catch Frisbees for YouTube. The feature has subsequently made its way into devices like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, again to huge acclaim.

Popular Tweak Apex 2 Released For iOS 8.1

Oliver Haslam·November 17, 2014
Some jailbreak tweaks are the kind of thing that make people jailbreak in the first place and we have no hesitation in saying that Apex 2, initially released for iOS 7, was one of those tweaks. Now, Apex 2 has just received a new update that adds an important new feature to the mix - support for iOS 8.1.

How To Force Lock Your iPhone To Use 4G LTE Connection All The Time

Ben Reid·November 17, 2014
Having 4G LTE connectivity on a mobile device is great and all, but when its signal begins to weaken, iOS takes it upon itself to switch to 3G. This is perfectly reasonable, of course, since it conserves battery and makes practical sense to run only 3G where LTE coverage is not necessarily firing to its maximum capacity, but if you don't want to be mollycoddled by Apple in this regard, then there's no actual way to halt the auto-switch to 3G. As with so many limitations within the iOS software, though, there's a remedial tweak out to resolve the issue, and a new entry over at the BigBoss repository will lock your cellular data signal to 4G LTE even when it begins to fade out.

Here’s How To Protect Yourself From Masque Attack On iOS

Ben Reid·November 16, 2014
A couple of days back, we reported on the so-called Masque Attack afflicting iOS, with threatening apps posing as legitimate ones in order to steal login credentials and generally wreak havoc. The fact that the United States government has issued a bulletin as something of a warning to iOS users is a testament to the severity of the problem, and with Apple concerned about the security of its platform as it well should be, the Cupertino company's support pages have been updated to offer advice to those worried about Masque.
