The guy behind Cydia, Jay Freeman (aka Saurik) has released an APT update which has significantly improved the rather slow, and painful loading times in Cydia. Cache Generator has also been optimized so that Cydia doesn't take an hour reloading. This new update is said to drop the loading times from 22 seconds to just 2.2 seconds (tested on iPhone 3GS), 10x improvement.
Most of you I am sure by now would have read about the lawsuit which Apple has filed against HTC for its alleged involvement in infringing 20 iPhone patents in US. Talking about the lawsuit, Steve Jobs said.
A very promising new app has been released for iPhone and iPod touch which lets you record all the action happening on your iPhone screen so that you can share it with your friends and colleagues. Called as ScreenRecorder, this app can be very useful in situations where you want to record a tutorial, demo or demonstration for sharing it on your blog, family and friends.
If you have activated your iPhone through an unauthorized carrier (aka hacktivation) on iPhone 3.x, then your Push Notifications functionality in most cases will be broken. Even if you have tried getting it to work through “PushFix” via iPhoneil available in Cydia, it wont work as that fix uses a single shared certificate for all users who have installed it. This causes battery drainage and huge use of cellular data access.
The all time hit - iPhone was launched back in 2007, followed by its successor models each year like iPhone 3G and 3GS. We also know that the 4th-generation model is expected mid this year at the WWDC 2010. By following the principle of "Bigger is Better", Apple recently introduced a new product called the iPad, which in a nutshell is slightly bigger in size than iPhone.
The biggest barrier to iPhone adoption has always been the cost of the hardware, along with the service charges that comes from the carrier’s plan. According to Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley - an industrial analyst, the hardware cost stops about 85% of people from buying the iPhone while the service plan stops about 66%. But all this is said to change come this June, when Apple is expected to unveil the next-gen iPhone.
Gull1hack and Blacksn0w V2 by the Gull1hack team has now been confirmed as fake by the iPhone Dev-Team. A Release Candidate version of Gull1hack was released the other day which was supposed to jailbreak all iPhone and iPod touch devices on the new bootrom untethered.
The newly released iPhone 3.2 SDK Beta 3 has revealed even more info on what is to come in the upcoming iPhone OS 3.2/4.0 for iPhone and iPad. In addition to supporting video conferencing through a front facing camera and external LED flash, the new firmware will also include built-in tools which will enable to do basic photo editing like crop and rotate directly on device without any third party app.
Folks behind the Gull1hack tool are also said to be working on a new unlocking tool dubbed Blacksn0w V2 which according to them will ultimately unlock the new iPhone 3.1.3 05.12.01 baseband on iPhone 3GS with new bootrom. I for one wont believe them until they come out with more proof of concept screenshot and videos.
A group of hackers are claiming to have found an exploit which will jailbreak iPhone 3GS with new bootrom and it will be untethered. The exploit appears to work not only in iPhone 3GS models with new bootrom, but also in all iPhone and iPod touch models.
