Two days back Taimur, resident admin here at Redmond Pie, tweeted that a post comparing iPhone 4 with iPod touch 4G / 3G would be going up soon. Well, if you can read this, it means we’ve fulfilled our promise!
Hah, As if we didn’t know this already! DisplayMate conducted an indepth review/analysis of all major smartphone displays (namely: iPhone 4, 3GS, Galaxy S, Droid, Nexus One) to test which display had the best overall quality. And the results are in.
Apple today has released the second Beta version of iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This beta build, like any other iOS beta is meant for developers only. Only members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access these bits of by signing into Apple Developer Connection.
My first post here on Redmond Pie was about the iPhone 5: An allegedly magical, amazing phone that will once again, somehow according to Apple, revolutionize the smartphone industry. In accordance with Apple’s standard release schedule, an iPhone 4S should be announced sometime next year with an all new iPhone 5 to be released in 2012.
After showing off the first demo of SHAtter exploit in action, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed today that this new exploit which was found by pod2g, a former team member of the Chronic Dev-Team will also work on the new Apple TV 2010. Since Apple TV also runs on iOS 4.1 (official download link), it will be interesting to see what kind of “magical” stuff can jailbreaking community achieve here.
All hail the jaibreaking community! Whatever features Apple leaves out in iPhone / iPod touch / iPad are quite often made available on the respective iDevices after jailbreaking. One of the biggest missing things in iPhone for texting junkies, like yours truly, was the ability to send out text messages to groups / lists. This ability to send out texts en masse makes the process of sending out those wishes (like New Year, Eid, Christmas, Diwali) exceptionally easy on the other phones. Well, needless to say, it was never available on iPhones. But now you can with an called GroupSMS for jailbroken iPhones.
The iPhone Dev-Team has finally shown off a video demo of iOS 4.1 jailbreak on the newly released iPod touch 4G by loading SHAtter exploit in PwnageTool (video after the break). This test version of PwnageTool however is currently for internal testing only. But it will be released later for iPhone 4 users so that they can preserve their old baseband in future for carrier unlock by restoring to the custom firmware file.
Previously we informed you about Cydia and Rock Your Phone merger. The main purpose behind the merger was to bring all the best jailbroken apps under one roof! And now, a new major update is underway as we write this which promises to brings lots of new features and performance enhancement to Cydia store.
Here’s a simple and rather useful little app we discovered just today: Multitasking Time is a simple add-on that adds the time and battery icon in the multi-tasking bar.
In light of the recent relaxed App Store restrictions, Apple has started allowing previously unallowed apps into their App Store. The biggest beneficiaries of the relaxed restrictions were Google Voice apps which weren't allowed before (since they duplicated features that iPhone comes with). We posted about two such apps: GV Connect and GV Mobile+. Both cost a very reasonable $2.99. But today, we have received information that GV Mobile+ is available for free just for today!
