The majority of the technology conference talk might be currently centered around Apple's WWDC 2013, and the goodies that it might bring, but we shouldn't be forgetting about the annual Google I/O event that begins on May 15th. To celebrate the fact that the doors of the Moscone will be imminently opening, Google has pushed out some fairly significant updates to the official I/O conference app for Android devices.
Custom home launchers allow Android users to really customize their device's home screen beyond stock, and although there are many out there, only a dozen or so are regarded among the elite. It is without question that Apex Launcher must be considered a part of that group, and today developer Android Does has brought in some interesting improvements and enhancements in bumping the popular home screen alternative up to version 2.0. Viber, the popular cross-platform VoIP service, has just been given a large-scale update. Both the Android and iOS versions of the app have been refreshed, and notably, Viber is also now available on both Windows and OS X. With 200 million users worldwide, Viber is right up there with Skype in terms of reach, and today's update is easily the most significant in its history. The ability to schedule messages is made possible on my iPhone thanks to the wonderful BiteSMS app, but since I'll be making the transition from iOS to Android this week having picked up the HTC One, I just had to go out and find an Android app offering this vitally important functionality. I perhaps got more than I bargained for in my discovery of Schemes, an app which not only facilitates the sending of SMS messages at predisposed times, but also emails, Facebook updates and Tweets.

When Instagram was purchased by Facebook early on last year, many devotees feared their treasured app would simply become an extension of the social network. To Mark Zuckerberg's credit, he's kept to his promise of allowing Instagram to retain its identity, but in an update released simultaneously today for both iOS and Android, the famed photo tagging feature has just been added to the Instagram repertoire.
Angry Birds has been the runaway success of the mobile era, and having started as a simple game for the Apple iPhone, now spawns every major platform with numerous adaptations of the original title. We learned early on last month that Angry Birds Friends, a social take on the popular format, would soon be debuting over at the App Store, and today, creator Rovio Entertainment has delivered a double whammy of avian-slinging madness by releasing the title for both iOS and Google's Android.
