CarTube Brings YouTube To Apple CarPlay Without Jailbreak

CarTube for TrollStore brings YouTube experience to Apple CarPlay without jailbreak required. Here are the details.

There are many apps that currently support CarPlay but YouTube isn’t one of them. It’s fairly obvious why that is — being able to watch YouTube videos while driving just seems like it’s asking for trouble.

But if you want to do it while parked, this new app might be what you’ve been looking for.

Called CarTube, the app is available as a free beta and can be downloaded from GitHub. Once installed it lets you play YouTube videos via CarPlay. In fact, it’s a full-featured app and includes the ability to browse videos, search for them, and more. The app even claims to skip ads and sponsored segments, too.

There is of course a catch. Because this app can’t be released to the App Store you have to install it manually. So long as your iPhone supports TrollStore you’re good to go, and no jailbreak is required. But TrollStore itself works by using a bug in iOS that has now been patched.

The result of that is that you can only install and use CarTube on iOS 14 through iOS 15.4.1 betas, because with later releases TrollStore use was dealt with by Apple. Sorry!

Still, if you have a compatible iPhone and really want to watch YouTube via CarPlay, this is definitely the option to check out. It’s just a shame that people with updated and newer iPhones are out of luck.
