JailbreakMe has to be hands down the easiest jailbreak method ever, but since it uses userland exploit like Spirit, it doesn’t hacktivate phones. iPhone dev and hacker named Sherif Hashim came up with a way to activate phones without having the original SIM cards but now it seems like Apple has found out about the phonebook SIM card trick and they have blocked it. And so if you activated your phone using phonebook SIM card, you will be getting the dreaded “Different SIM Detected” error on your lockscreen as shown in the screenshot below.

Folks at the MacMagazine claims to have got this information from reliable sources within Apple who has confirmed to them that instead of the usual Apple’s “Media event” in September, Apple this year will be hosting their event as early as mid of this August, somewhere around 14th to 16th. Since 14th August falls on Saturday, what they believe is that the event is likely going to be held on Monday or Tuesday i.e. 16th or 17th of this month.
Whoa! Apple has just opened up a new featured section in the App Store which is titled as “Try Before You Buy”. As the name suggests, this new section features all the lite and free version of popular apps in the App Store. If anything, Apple must have taken this initiative in a bid to fight against the ever growing number of pirated apps which are easily available on jailbroken iPhones, iPod touches and iPads.
MacRumors has got hold of parts of LCD assembly which is claimed to be from the upcoming 4th-generation iPod touch. The bezel over the front-LCD has a hole in the top center which is most likely going to be for a front-facing camera for making FaceTime video calls across all iOS devices. A new MobileSubstrate package has just been released in Cydia which fixes all issues that you maybe having running Skype on a iOS device which is jailbroken using the newly released JailbreakMe 2.0. To fix the issue, simply start Cydia and and apply all the updates, including that of MobileSubstrate version 0.9.3226-1 to run Skype with full multitasking support in iOS 4.
As promised, the iPhone Dev-Team has released the carrier unlocking tool called Ultrasn0w for US based iPhone 4 users who are stuck with AT&T network. For those of you who don’t know, carrier unlock for US iPhone 4s required complete rewrite of ultrasn0w software because of the new baseband OS present in iPhone 4.

Apple has just pushed iOS 4.1 Beta 3 to the developers for all iPhones and iPod touches. This beta build, like all the previous betas is meant for developers only. Only members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access these bits of by signing into Apple Developer Connection.
