If you like your comic books, 2012 will have, by all accounts, been a pretty decent year for you entertainment-wise. The recent release of the Dark Knight Rises was a box office smash, and the accompanying title for mobile devices certainly wasn't too shabby, either.

It's been a pretty big day in mobile space, with two of the big guns both showcasing new products and innovations to be released in the near future. Motorola's "On Display" event saw a glut of new devices slide into the fold, including the DROID RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD and RAZR M Android smartphones, while the Nokia and Microsoft partnership saw the birth of a couple significant new Lumia devices, as well as more details regarding Windows Phone 8.
If Angry Birds is the iconic representation of mobile gaming of the modern day, then FarmVille has to epitomize the social gaming made possible by the likes of Facebook. Having witnessed grown men discussing their virtual farms in Starbucks, it's a tad comedic to see just how gripped many folk were by the title, and for those who've just finished weaning themselves from the original edition of FarmVille, you'll be pleased to know FarmVille 2 has just arrived!
The iPhone 5's announcement is almost upon us, and although we've seen prototypes of the upcoming smartphone measured up against the current iPhone 4S on numerous occasions, many of the images and videos released hitherto have been far from clear. Now, though, parts and repairs company iResQ has fully assembled an iPhone 5 using various bits and pieces it has received, and offered the anxious tech world a very up-close and personal look at the next-gen Apple smartphone compared with its predecessor.
Windows Phone 8 was announced by Microsoft some time ago, and the recent special event gave us even further insight into the features on offer with the exciting, metro-laden user-interface. In order to retain interest in and anticipation for Windows Phone 8, the Redmond company held several features back since its original announcement, and at today's keynote with Nokia, it has been revealed the upgraded ecosystem will indeed include a screenshot feature.
After weeks and weeks of almost blind speculation, Nokia has finally taken the wraps off its Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 device, which will no doubt serve as the company's flagship smartphone. With Microsoft allowing vendors to really push the hardware boundaries with Windows Phone 8, the Finnish outfit certainly hasn't disappointed with the 920.
The patent fight has often been analogized as being like the Cold War, and it's a battle which Apple appears to be winning right now, given that Judge Lucy Koh recently ruled in favor of Apple in the well-documented San Jose fiasco. Samsung was hit pretty hard by the decision of the jury, and as well as losing a billion dollars plus (barring a successful appeal), the Korean outfit has been made to look like the inferior, copycat company.
Battery life on smartphones is, for the most part, pretty poor. The old Nokia cellphone of the late 1990's could manage days and days of usage without giving in, and although the current array of handheld phones offer a great deal more than Snake, and.. erm.. the Nokia Tune, the price one has to pay in terms of juice retention is pretty staggering.
Server administrators rejoice; Microsoft has just, as promised, launched the new Windows Server 2012. The Redmond company initially confirmed at TechEd in New Zealand that the RTM build of the said OS would be released to developers on 4th, and the software maker certainly hasn't disappointed, as the new Windows Server 2012 RTM bits are available as of today for both MSDN and TechNet subscribers.
In the fast-moving world of technology, we're used to anticipating the next great gadget or game for months on end, but when it comes to Apple products - or specifically - the iPhone, the goalposts are moved once more.
