Apple’s Former Design Head, Jony Ive, Has Signed A Multi-Year Deal With Ferrari

Apple’s former design head Jony Ive has announced a new multi-year partnership with Italian carmaker Ferrari. The deal is with LoveFrom, the company Jony Ive co-founded with Marc Newsom.

The move, first reported by Bloomberg, will see the two companies “explore projects in the luxury business.”

“The first expression of this new partnership will bring together Ferrari’s legendary performance and excellence with LoveFrom’s unrivaled experience and creativity that has defined extraordinary world changing products,” the statement said.

Under the leadership of Exor’s John Elkann, Italy’s billionaire Agnelli family investment firm has been diversifying its investments in recent years beyond the car industry. Exor also controls Juventus Football Club SpA and reinsurance business PartnerRe, as well as a stake in Stellantis NV, formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler with PSA Group

Hard details are difficult to come by, however. While it seems unlikely that we can expect Ive to be involved in designing the next Ferrari sports car, he could be more than helpful when designing the products that are sold to Ferrari fans — like watches, for example. Both Ive and Newsom have experience doing exactly that, with the former being a big watch guy himself.

Ive left Apple in 2019 and even though it was said that LoveFrom would work with Apple, nothing appears to have come from that so far.
