Apple Releases iTunes 12.12.4 For Windows Including Security Updates

Apple has released iTunes 12.12.4 for Windows with the new update doing something you might not have expected it to.

Features aren’t the order of the day here, with the update instead focusing on fixes, specifically for security issues.

The new update, which can be downloaded via Apple’s website or the Microsoft Store, includes a number of fixes relating to WebKit, Mobiel Device Service, and more.

For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available

The full list of improvements in terms of security content includes:

  • AppleGraphicsControl
  • ImageIO
  • iTunes
  • Mobile Device Service
  • WebKit

As always we would suggest that everyone updates to the latest version of iTunes as soon as possible. That’s normally a pretty good rule of thumb regardless, but it’s especially the case when you are dealing with security fixes of this ilk. All apply to iTunes running on Windows 10 or later and are fixes resulting from reports of security floors from external people and companies.

Apple doesn’t ship iTunes with macOS anymore, of course. The app has been killed off in favor of iPhone and iPad management taking place via Finder. Music playback is now done via a dedicated Music app, too.
