Amazon Echo Show Gets Smart Home Camera Control For Its Touchscreen

The much rumored and now very real Amazon Echo Show does not go on sale until next week, but it is already on the receiving end of updated capabilities after home security camera manufacturers came on board.

Nest, August, Amcrest, EZViz, IC Realtime, Vivint, Ring, Logitech, and Arlo smart home cameras will all be compatible with the Echo Show next week, adding another string to the bow of Amazon’s smart home device.

As you may remember, the Echo Show offers the same great features as the normal Echo, but with the added bonus of a touchscreen built in. As you can imagine, that makes it perfect for watching a stream from a security camera, meaning users could simply bark “Alexa, show me the front door” and as if by magic, the camera by the front door shows its feed on the new Echo Show.

As if home automation hardware wasn’t amazing enough, being able to ask Alexa to show you a live feed and have it magically appear on the wireless device sat on your kitchen counter top just feels like the future to us, at least until next week it actually is!

The magic is possible thanks to a new Smart Home Camera Control available to all developers today, and with the Echo Show going on sale June 28th, the new support for home security cameras has arrived just in time for launch day.

With its built-in 7-inch screen and the usual array of Alexa goodness, the Echo Show costs $229.99 and from what we have seen so far, we think it may just be worth every single penny.

We can’t wait to get our hands on one and see what the screen offers above the existing, already excellent Echo.
