WhatsApp Is Testing Displaying Profile Pictures In iPhone Notifications

WhatsApp is one of the best instant messaging apps around, especially if you want to be able to send messages from one platform to another — iPhone to Android, for example.

Now, WhatsApp appears to be testing a change that will be very welcome with reports pointing to profile images beginning to appear in incoming notifications.

According to a new WABetaInfo report, the latest TestFlight beta of WhatsApp now supports notification profile images, although even then it’s only for people who have had their account enabled.

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp has added the support to include profile photos in notifications when you receive new messages from chats and groups. This feature has been released to some beta testers only on iOS 15 since it uses iOS 15 APIs.

Thankfully, WhatsApp is normally pretty good at getting features like this through the beta program and into the hands of those who have to install their apps via the App Store. That should mean that we will all see profile images in our notifications soon enough.

The ability to add these profile images is something that was made possible when iOS 15 shipped towards the end of last year and many other messaging apps have already taken advantage of it. Now it’s down to WhatsApp to make sure it isn’t too far behind.
