iOS 18 Will Be ‘Ambitious And Compelling,’ Apple Believes

Apple’s iOS 17 might have only been around for a few weeks but the attention inside Apple has already very much turned to what comes next.

That’s iOS 18, and while it won’t be unveiled until WWDC in June of 2024, Apple has to make sure that it gets its ducks in a row ahead of time. And a new report claims that the company has high hopes.

Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple believes that iOS 18, as well as annual updates to the Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV software, will be “ambitious and compelling”. It’s thought that Apple is aiming for a strong iOS 18 update because it won’t be making big hardware changes to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineups.

The iOS update also needs to be extra-impressive because the iPhone 16’s hardware won’t have any major advances next year. So Apple is banking on the software to sell people on the new models.

Apple is thought to have “hit pause” on development of iOS 18 and macOS 15 to ensure that it can iron out any bugs before moving forward.

But that isn’t expected to impact the update as a whole, with Apple’s senior management reportedly excited about what it will offer. New features and designs are expected, as are security and performance improvements.
