WhatsApp Is Finally Testing Chat History Migration Between iOS And Android

After years of people wishing that it was possible to export their WhatsApp chat history from an iPhone to an Android phone and vice versa, it now appears that exact feature is being tested.

According to a post by WABetaInfo, the feature is now being tested for iOS and Android, with users able to migrate their chat history from one platform to the other for the first time.

Currently, backing up chat histories is possible but they can only be restored on the same platform they originated from.

That’s all about to change.

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp will allow to migrate your chat history from WhatsApp for iOS to WhatsApp for Android. It is obvious that WhatsApp will also allow the opposite way. When the user tries to link a device having a different operating system to his WhatsApp account, it’s always needed to update to the latest WhatsApp update available on the App Store or TestFlight, in order to avoid any compatibility error with the Android version.
Unfortunately there is no date available for the release, but stay tuned to discover more new features and announcements!

The lack of information on when this feature will go live is no surprise but the fact that it is currently being worked on is extremely good news – especially for those of us who spend our time switching from one device to another.
