There has been a new viral video doing the rounds, initially on TikTok and then Twitter. It’s said that the video shows us the first look at an iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2, depending on who you listen to. Either way, it’s supposed to be the new, budget iPhone, except, well, it isn’t.
Apple is roundly expected to announce the iPhone 9 next month. It may be the spiritual successor to the long-gone iPhone SE, but this phone is expected to look and feel like an iPhone 8, including the rounded side rails, Home button, and big bezels. This video gets some of that right and then it falls down by showing squared-off edges, like an iPhone 4.
Now, we’ve been hearing rumors of a new iPhone that hearkens back to the much loved iPhone 4. But those rumors relate to the iPhone 12, so this video just isn’t quite right. It looks a bit like what could be the iPhone 9, but if you’ve been following along with the rumors, you know that it really isn’t.
So what is it? It could be an Android phone skinned up. Or it could be an iPhone in some sort of case. Whatever it is, there’s very little chance it’s the iPhone 9.
Unless it is and all of the rumors have been very, very wrong. In which case, forget this post ever happened!
