USB-C AirPods Pro Are Coming Soon, Says Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple is set to release new AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C connection before the end of the year based on a report by one well-connected analyst.

Writing on Twitter, Ming-Chi Kuo said that a new USB-C version of AirPods Pro 2 will begin mass shipments in the second or third quarter of 2023.

It appears that the AirPods Pro 2 will be the same as the previous model, with the only change being that there will be no Lightning port. The move to USB-C is the only change.

Apple is of course moving the iPhone 15 lineup to USB-C when it arrives later this year, with the EU forcing all phones and accessories to use the same connector. That’s also why Apple is going to launch a new USB-C version of the AirPods Pro 2, but there is no suggestion that new AirPods 2 or AirPods 3 are on the horizon. There has also been no mention of AirPods Max, either.

It’s been reported previously that Apple could ship upgraded AirPods Max as soon as 2024, while a cheaper version of the base model AirPods has a similar release timeframe. Both would surely use USB-C for obvious reasons.

The EU has given companies until December 28 2024 to move to USB-C, so it’s possible that Apple could refresh the AirPods and AirPods Max before that date.
