Jailbreak iOS 16.3.1 On iPhone And iPad Latest Status Update

If you want to jailbreak iOS 16.3.1 on iPhone or iPad, here’s what you need to know before getting started.

Apple’s iOS 16.3.1 update is now available for download and you’re probably asking the same old question — should you update?

Generally the answer is always a resounding yes, but what if you plan to jailbreak? Can you update to iOS 16.3.1 and if so, should you?

That answer, as is often the case, will depend on what iPhone you’re using. Those with an older model like the iPhone 8 or iPhone X are already pretty safe thanks to the latest Palera1n jailbreak tool, although the tool itself might need to get a small update to support latest iOS 16.3.1 released today. This is because those phones can be jailbroken at the bootrom level and Apple can’t patch that, no matter how much it tries.

It’s less good news if you’re using a more modern iPhone, however. New iPhones like the iPhone 14 aren’t going to be jailbroken with this update installed, or indeed any other right now. That could change of course, and there are people working on new jailbreaks all the time. But they don’t always turn into jailbreak tools that you can use yourself, which might mean you’re going to be left in the cold.

The good news is that iPhones and iOS now have so many of the things that people jailbroke for in the first place, do you really need to bother?
