Last month, we informed you about an emulation software named Haret which enabled Windows phones to run Android OS side by side with Windows Mobile 6.x. This solution required booting into Windows Mobile first, before you could run Android using Haret. But now, some folks at XDA-Developers have released a new software/tool named Gen.Y DualBOOT which enables Windows phone users to dual boot Windows Mobile and Android OS on the very same handset.
According to the latest Windows Mobile 7 findings by WMExperts, HTC Obsession could very well be the first Windows phone which will ship with Windows Mobile 7 come this fall. Microsoft may even show it off at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, where they are highly expected to unveil Windows Mobile 7 for the very first time.
According to the sources at Digitimes, Microsoft is set to launch Windows Mobile 6.6 (codename Maldives) sometime in February of this year. If this rumor regarding Windows Mobile 6.6 turns out to be true, then we could see it debut as early as next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Just came across this thread on XDA-Developers forum where a forum member got a reply from HTC regarding Windows Mobile 7 upgrade for HD2. The member in question enquired HTC via email on whether or not HD2 will be getting the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 as a free upgrade. This was the reply he got from a representative at HTC.

Phil Moore, Head of Microsoft Mobile Division in UK has confirmed that phones with Windows Mobile 7 wont be available until late next year. He announced this in a Q&A session held at the ‘Connect’ technology summit in London. This news means that we are not going to see handsets with Windows Mobile 7 anytime before last quarter of 2010.
A guy by the name of rodrigofd at modaco forums has managed to port HTC HD2 Rom, complete with HTC Sense 2.5 on his Samsung Omnia II. It’s still a work in progress but he has stated that he is going to release to the Rom soon for Omnia II users once he is done with full testing. Folks over at XDA-Developers have managed to hack the popular HTC Sense interface, which ships with HTC HD2, to make it compatible to run in landscape mode. One complain that you would have often heard from users running HTC Sense on Windows phones is the lack of support in landscape mode. With this hack, you can now run the popular interface in landscape mode. Its not perfect yet, and has some alignment issues, but it is still very much usable. One can expect more improvements in future releases.
