Sony has provided consumers who reside within the United States with yet another reason to choose its powerful PlayStation 4 over competing consoles. When Sony's fourth iteration of the PlayStation console was launched in late 2013 it was priced at $399.99, which is pretty much where it has stayed in the 22 months that's followed. In an effort to increase sales as part of the run up to the extremely lucrative holiday shopping season, Sony has slashed $50 from the retail price of the hardware, dropping it down to $349.99.
Sony has been taking advantage of having a captive audience at the SCEJA Conference in Tokyo to make some rather interesting announcements that no doubt immediately captured the attention of PlayStation owners. The Japanese gaming giant has taken the opportunity to not only announce the official name of its PS4 virtual reality system that has been frequently speculated upon, but also introduce a number of new DualShock 4 controllers and accessory panels designed for the PlayStation 4 console.
If you're the type of individual who chooses a Sony over Microsoft when it comes to the gaming-console wars, then you're going to love what American retailer GameStop have come up with. The Sony versus Microsoft console war has never been about plain old friendly competition, it's always been about which company can best the other and claim the majority of the console market. Now, in an effort to outdo Microsoft's recent announcement of the 1TB Xbox One console, GameStop is seemingly doing Sony's dirty work for it by supercharging pre-owned PlayStation 4 consoles to serve up a whopping 2TB of internal data storage.
The PlayStation 4 may be svelte when compared with the Xbox One, but nobody ever accused it of being portable. That didn't stop the PlayBook 4 being created, with a PS4 being shoehorned into a mobile chassis alongside a 22-inch display that made the whole thing look like a large notebook. There was no keyboard to type on, but the resemblance was there nonetheless.
A PlayStation 4 console with 1TB of internal storage space has been officially announced by Sony, and is being dubbed the '1TB PS4 Ultimate Player Edition.' The upgraded console only doubles up on the existing storage of the PS4 while everything else remains untouched.
PlayStation 4 backwards compatibility for PS3 games won’t happen any time soon, according to Sony, which might come as disappointing news for a lot of gamers.
