We have just been tipped off about the possible name for the next jailbreak by Geohot, called Rubyra1n. The domain Rubyra1n.com was registered by the iPhone hacker named George Hotz (aka geohot) on 27th March 2010.
Incase you were wondering why Geohot used a userland exploit from Comex to make Limera1n untethered, it was because he did not wanted to waste his untethered version of bootrom exploit which seems to be more powerful than the exploit used in Limera1n. Both Comex and MuscleNerd has confirmed that Geohot has in his possession a new untethered bootrom level exploit which can be used to pwn future iOS devices like iPhone 5 and iPad 2G for life.
Geohot has just released the much anticipated Mac version of his Limera1n tool which can jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPod touch 4G / 3G running iOS 4.1 – untethered !
George Francis Hotz is known for being among the group of people who first unlocked the iPhone to work on carriers other than those which Apple officially supported e.g. AT&T. He went to release jailbreaking tools like purplera1n, blackra1n, blacksn0w, a hack the PS3 and recently Limera1n which jailbreaks iOS 4.1.
GreenPois0n took weeks upon weeks upon weeks of development and hard work from the Chronic Dev Team. The SHAtter exploit based tool was supposed to release today, but after the release of George Hotz’ Limera1n (which is based on a new exploit; pwns all iOS 4.1 devices), Chronic Dev Team had to make a very tough decision.

Limera1n has been released for all iOS devices including: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G / 3G, iPad running iOS 4.1, and iOS 3.2.2 respectively. Limera1n is currently available for Windows only, however a Mac and Linux version will be available soon.

Since today is the day jailbreaking has officially gone legal in the United States, I thought it was right time to share this full two-part interview on history of jailbreaking with Jay Freeman Saurik, the guy who is creator of Cydia, Winterboard and Cyntact apps for jailbroken iPhones. We all know why Geohot left the whole jailbreak scene. He has already deleted his Twitter account, and his blog is set to invite-only viewing only. However before deleting his Twitter account, Geohot said to follow his friend Mike Cohen for all the future updates on jailbreak. He also said that “perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye”. And now it looks like he is probably going to make a comeback (perhaps for the last time?) with a new tool to jailbreak all iOS devices once and for all.
