When you have an issue, but cannot quite decipher what exactly is causing continual crashes, software malfunction or general bugs, things can become very frustrating indeed. In this instance, some - particularly developers - find logcat to be of particular help, as they help ascertain what isn't working, why it isn’t working, the steps that can be taken in order to amend the situation.

Oliver Haslam·November 8, 2012

Android Gingerbread More Prone To Malware Than Any Other Mobile OS, Says Report

Ben Reid·November 6, 2012
Google's Android is by far the most widely-used mobile platform on the planet. Not only is it open-source, but recent improvements have seen its performance levels exceed all expectation, yet while Android's presence in the smartphone and tablet continues to rise, so does its reputation as being susceptible to malicious attacks. A recent report by Kaspersky Labs has just revealed that while Gingerbread 2.3 is now fairly dated, it remains the foremost target to malware, with 28% of all blocked malware attempts in the third quarter of 2012 originating from version 2.3.6.

Android 4.2 Core Apps Now Available To Download For Galaxy Nexus Users

Paul Morris·November 6, 2012
Waiting patiently for the official release of the latest version of Android has never been an easy thing to do. Even when the switch is flipped and the latest variant of Google's mobile operating system goes live, it still inevitably takes an eternity for it to filter through the approval process of various manufacturers and networks and make it onto existing devices. That is one of the reasons why we often see individual elements ripped right out of new Android versions and packaged up for existing users to flash onto their current installations, which is something that has happened with the core Google apps from Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Ben Reid·November 6, 2012
The general interest in photography has increased phenomenally as the cameras of smartphones have improved, yet while the latest high-end handsets can take a mean shot, they're still streets behind your professional DSLRs. Samsung has attempted to bridge the gap between the professional shooters of Nikon and Canon and the point-and-shoot culture our mobile devices are immersed in, by offering up the Samsung Galaxy Camera, and having announced the device some months ago, it looks as though it'll begin retailing in the United Kingdom later this week.

Samsung Has Sold Three Million Galaxy Note II Devices In First Month Since Launch

Paul Morris·November 2, 2012
The launch of the original Samsung Galaxy Note was met by mocking calls from smartphone and technology fans who thought that the Korean electronics company were onto a loser with the release of the plus-sized device. Hindsight would seem to suggest that someone at Samsung knew exactly what they were doing. The first-generation Note managed to shift over ten million units during its first year of existence, and we now have the news that the Galaxy Note II is showing signs of being even more popular, with three million handsets selling in the first thirty-seven days of availability.
